Maybe you are right... I am pretty cold, i need a reason to go out of that frame.

I admire those that can help others the way you say it... cause I cannot.

    :p

Everyone helps out because there is a reason.

The less obvious that reason is, the more righteous the person seems.

What type of reasons?? if you do it for the warm feeling, you are doing it for yourself... and the by product is the help to the other person...
If you want a thanks, or a show of appreciation is the same...

Being righteous is also a condition you put on yourself, like a medal or a rank...

Am sorry, I am not trying to be a prick, is just that those reasons are not enough for me. Maybe I cant see it right now.

;o, it reminds me of my topic. I try my best. Recently, I've raised a decent amount of money, and I was so proud of some creative ways I got to aid Japan. However, I did stop my inner city help program unfortunately ;(. Going to a school like mine where druggies are almost non existant and you'd be surprised how few kids drink, I actually manage to see a lot of people illustrating the behavior you stated. Now, I don't know if that's all a show to get into college (clearly it works, seeing how many got into Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, etc.), but lots of kids at my school go above and beyond. I know kids who have traveled to Haiti and Africa to help out.

In fact, just the other day, I was reading a story about Manute Bol, an NBA player who was born in Africa with a birth defect. He had a tumor that made him extremely tall. He played in the NBA, and he would go back to his home country and donate every SINGLE CENT he earned in the NBA to help out children in his country. He died because of the tumor, and in his last interview, he was in tears because he said he would no longer be able to help out his children.

I try my best to epitomize the standard of decency and goodness, but it's not easy, and there is no reward. I've come to realize that it's self-rewarding, knowing you were a good person deep down is the only reward you are going to get. However, it may not seem like much right now, but later on in life, I'm sure I'll appreciate it a lot more and be happy my life didn't turn out to be about being self-centered and a douche. :)

Those reasons are DEFINITELY not enough for just anyone. Otherwise the world would be a bit of a different place. You shouldn't feel bad or anything, your position is perfectly normal.

    You are so excellent. =]

Knowing that you are a good person is the motivation to do good things like you described. What if you didn't you feel anything?

Thank you everyone for this deep discussion. I've always wanted to talk about righteousness, being nice for no reason, motivation, meaning of life. I've enjoyed hearing you out and learned something new. I hope you also learned something from me.

    Peace.

They say you only do things when it benefits you, I'd agree to this.

I would go out of my way to help someone to an extent, as I have in the passed. I do it because it makes me feel better as a person. However, I would need some sort of connection as my Viking avatar friend stated in order to place my life in harms way in order to save someone else.

Help an old lady put her groceries in her car? Sure.
Help an old lady put her 80 pound labrador in her car? Sure.
Drive an old lady to the hospital if she's in need? Sure.
Give an old lady my kidney? Probably not.

Humans are important, and so are their lives. By showing the kindness you wish to see in the world you might spread it and inspire others to act the same.
