So after talking with a guild mate, it seems we both have kind of the same question, when it comes to earning kills in PvP.

What exactly determines who gets the kill?

In our conversations, it's obvious that we've had the same situations occur. We both deal tons of damage to a member of the opposite faction, but still fail to earn the "kill" for the death of that player. So we began to think. Is it the person who successfully deals the "killing" blow to said target, that earns the kill? Or is it the person who deals the most damage to that character?

There have been many times when I have jumped into the middle of a group of a good maybe 8 members of the opposite faction, DP dumped (I'm a Gladiator, if you guys don't know by now), then continued to drop the rest of my arsenal of aoes on them, just to find out that when they're all dead, I got maybe what, 1 kill? Now, seeing as how there are usually a minimum of maybe 6 people on the receiving end of my attack, and maybe 3 on my side behind me, who start fighting after I do, how do you determine the resulting AP?

AP computation is based on amount of damage on target.

Kill is the last killing blow. obviously you will see "[Target's Name] has been killed by [Attacker's Name]"

Well yeah. But there are times when I can take maybe 95% of someone's HP, die, then still get the AP. There are also times where I can take 95% of someone's HP, die, and not get the AP. Same goes with staying alive after the "kill"

redcox and me experienced this too this morning. He chased and asmodian dealing more than 10k damage I came in time to heal and some ely zergers came out of nowhere and attacked the asmodian they got the kill and not redcox but I got good ap even if I just healed redcox.

that doesn't make sense, every time you hit someone regardless of how much your damage to the target, if he dies near you, you will get AP. (the lower the accumulated damage the lesser AP you get)

the only time you won't get AP from attacking someone who died is when you die before the target does.

    or

when you killed the person too much at a time then you will get 1AP.

in a group/alliance situation its a bit different...

earning AP in a group is based on a group as an individual, accumulated damage to target then AP are distributed in a group evenly.

kills would still be the killing blow.

I think it's half random, half biggest dmg. I've gotten kills from dealing most of the dmg and I've gotten kills from slicing last ~5% hp off.

that probably happens when the original target who dealt most damage got killed.

Could be. Don't really notice kill count until later, when the fighting is done.

it varies really, for some reason it might be un explainable but it works somehow, if you want to up your kill count go solo.

I noticed with my cleric when i am groped up and just do healing i would gain a lot of AP. But this was before 2.5. I have not group up since then, might try to see if it is still the same. But I know every one in the group will gain AP for kills from other group members to.
