    Hi,

I'm trying to set up QoS in my router. Unfortunately I can't find any direct guide from google. If you do have an idea how to fill out the info below, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Modem/Router: PROLiNK H5301G ADSL Wireless Modem..

The windows QoS does nothing unless configed to, same goes for routers (Only a few actually got QoS). by default; it's off, and needs to stay so for games.

You don't know what QoS is, do you? :p

@OP, Look and see if your router is supported by dd-wrt or Tomato. Those are custom firmwares for routers with QoS that actually work. I tested them myself.

P.S: You only need QoS if someone else is hogging the internet.

I don't doubt your competency level, but working for an ISP tech department, especially customer phone support, doesn't hold much weight. In fact, ISP customer support are some of the most ignorant people I've met when it comes to anything computer related, particularly the networking aspect. I know most of these people are generalist, with very few being actual specialist, but the prerequisites for such positions should be much higher. Regardless, there was no need to be offended by vRisen's inane comment. The comment about "QoS needs to stay off for games" was a little suspicious, though. Working in a tech department, you should know that anything that demands rapid rates of download and upload benefits from QoS. Say he/she didn't want their VoIP traffic saturating their network with non gaming related packets. Thus, this is a situation where he/she would benefit from QoS. In contrast, if the original poster thought QoS just sounded cool and there aren't multiple users on the network and no other services consuming bandwidth, but his/her throughput is still "bad", QoS wouldn't help in this situation.

I like you. I don't like blocks of text though! :)

The only way I'd hold any respect for someone working in the ISP tech dept., is if you're with Sonic.net

P.S: I never meant for it to be an insult.
