I'm so sorry this happened to you Regii T_T. It brings tears to my eyes. If you was my little girl and I didn't like what you said I would probaly yell at you at first then tell you to go to your room and then after my anger went away talk about it. That's really sad...I don't know what your point of view of the topic you was talking about but he shouldn't have slapped you. No child deserves that type of abuse. I can understand getting your butt spanked or a slap on the hand but omg no no no. *hugs you* your poor girl. I can relate to some. My grandparents raised me and my grandma attacked me a few times. (sorry people my granny wasn't a 80 yr old beating on a 12-16yr child, she was in her 50s) anyways she punched me in the face and grabbed my hair slappng me around i got back at her for doing it I punched her in the face and shoved her down finally i didn't want to but holding back so much rage finally pushed me and i hope your parents realize that it's going to happen to them if they don't knock their shit off. Currently I am the only one raising my kids and left my husband finally (peace at last) and I do get angry with them but I will never ever do something like that. NEVER!!...they will get theirs (your parents) when they realize their little girl has grown up and wants nothing to do with them. Event if they say sorry that sorry feels like nothing. I loves you Regii you will get through this horrible thing that has happened to you right now. Be strong and don't give up ok. I will be so sad if you give up *hugs*

But if you leave them to decide on their own, god knows what they will do?
You can't sweet talk your child out of his closer circle of weed-smoking friends, for example.

A child's mind is malleable, and it tends to follow almost anyone's opinions, except for its parents.

There's a difference between physical discipline and abuse. You don't discipline your child by beating them to a pulp. I will support LIGHT smacks that get their attention or spanks. But you don't draw blood unless it's something they did that was so horrible to deserve it.

Perhaps it wasn't that bad, or regi's dad unintentionally hurt her.
    Remember, the story is narrated.

But then again, regi is close to being a teenager now. Usually (and I say usually) if parents repeatedly discipline their kids with twinky punishments, chances are they won't learn a thing.

i have never said u leave them to decide on thier own a kid that doesent get noticed by their parents are trying to get attention and will do everything they can to get it that means parents that arent involved in their kids life very much and never really take the time to talk to them.if u give ur kids respect then u will have it back.as i said parents that have to resolve to violence arent fit to be one in the first place and should go and take some lessons on how to become a parent.

Would you spank your kid lightly after his/her 23rd offense?

All in all, I'm giving my opinions based on my experiences, which are similar to regi's. My parents are fine, hard-working, and respectable folks, even if they had beaten the shit out of me in the past.

No, they didn't brainwash me either.

It is also a different culture. That would be expected in my culture. It's the same in my culture worse depending on what the kid did. Doesn't mean it's right but I don't really think it's a reason to send her father to jail. Also no one has the full story and what is known is told from the perspective of a teenager. The useful advice has been given and the same arguments have been discussed. God I'm glad I'm not a teenager definitely not looking forward to this dramatic stage of my daughters life -.-

So either A she's lying or B her father does it by accident? Judging from what I read and heard in the past from her, this is a recurring issue. And I don't think she would lie about this.

Also, being a teenager doesn't change jack shit. I'm 19 and my parents can easily make me feel like shit about something I did by simply talking to me about it. The most physical discipline I got was spanks when I was little. My parents established trust in me when I became a teenager and I established trust in them, and so because of that words work.

    Doesn't matter.
I'm not saying that regi did this, but is it plausible that she repeatedly committed the same offense? Absolutely.

It's the same for me here, although I had to learn it the hard way.
Almost got my mom hospitalized because I tried to talk back. I regretted it. Now I just pucker up when I know I did something wrong.

The same parenting doesn't work for every kid. And i'm pretty sure he means that her version of the story may be more dramatised because she's a teen not on purpose ofc but because everything is the end of the world when you're at that age. Also 19 is still a teenager in my eyes ^ ^

You can talk to them for the first 1-10 times, sure.
But if they do it the 11th time, you know your talks aren't helping.

The amount of chances vary, depending on different folks. Some would allow a lifetime of the same mistakes, some would allow it once.

Way to miss all my points. I never said I wasn't a teenager. I was proving my point by saying I was a teenager. Also I don't care what kind of parenting works, you don't beat your child so they "learn a lesson". That shit is for the truly unruly. In Regi's case it sounds more like unleashed aggression rather than discipline.

so that should resolve in violence to make sure they dont do it again? i dont think u understand that violence doesent help anything and doesent remind u to not do that again its called common sense and if ur kid never gets common sense then u still are clearly lacking in ur parenting skills

Right and when exactly did I say I support beating your children. I was simply stating the same method does not work for all kids. I've already made my points on this thread earlier on.

Jesus christ you're stupid. If you don't support that then why say anything at all with what I said? You're stating nothing but the obvious.

If neither considerate talking nor disciplinary action (I'm not calling that violence) helps, what the hell do you do then?

Of all the persons it had to be you...but trust me i know how you even feel...i mean i look at myself 2 years ago when i got thrown out of the house BY MY OWN FATHER cause after 16 h of helping him at the country i couldn't clean up my room when i got home exausted...
I had to live 1 week on the streets...if it wasn't for my sister to give me money for the food i was probably dead by now.
But what they all say...payback's a *****...after i got in front of my block those 2 retards called "parents" had to come at exactly that time.I was dirty...my mind was confused and given all hope for a better tomorrow since they didn't even cared if i was dead or not...mom just smiled at me and talked with me with such IRONY i don't know how i hold myself together not to beat the **** out of her in that moment...but worst was my father that told me like some stranger "You have no business here...leave you stupid scumbag" and that is when i just picked a big rock from the ground and beaten him up till he got in hospital for 2 weeks.Rage was in my blood and i was blind in those moments..all i wanted is to ****ing kill the retard that ruined my childhood cause he was drinking every night and beating me up when i was a little kid FOR NO REASON...and mom just sat there and agreed with him, didn't had the courage to say anything to him.

I do agree...such people need to die.Their life are meaningless, and they pick up on their child when they are angry.

Regi i wish you goodluck with your parents and remember...payback's a ***** for everyone...you'll see further away in the future...

If you read what I had said I talk about more than one point. The point that you missed, obviously because you assumed he was saying regi was lying, was that he meant a teenagers point of view is a dramatised point of view. I always say the biggest sign of stupidity is when a person results to insults and aggression when trying to make a point
