I think it's overheating or dust.

Most definitely overheating. I have this going on 1 or 2 times before.

Besides, if you've had the thing for 1.5 years, it should be the right time for it to slightly malfunction, provided that your method of care is average-poor. If there are weird patterns on your screen, it's becoming artifacted (mostly due to overheating again). It's like cancer: once it's full blown, time to grab another one.

Like everyone said, It is overheating.

I get this all the time when i forget to clean my GFX card.
Screen goes.... sounds makes that exact sound and i have to turn off my PC.

When it does this, my fan speed kicks up major! listen to your card and see if it does the same thing.
I have MSI Afterburner installed which gives me a heads up display while in-game of my GPU Heat so i know if things are getting too hot down there.

its not overheating if he/she checked the temperatures and they were fine, there r other causes for this, mainly the nvidia drivers. had a similar issue on my laptop

theres a way to tweak ur graphics driver to force a constant performance level for games, it should get rid of this issue

    try this

    1. Download the latest version of RivaTuner here: RivaTuner

    2. Install RivaTuner and Run the program.

    3. In the Main tab, click on the arrow next to Customize under Driver Settings to bring up more options then click System Settings (the first Icon)

    4. In the Overclocking tab, where it says "Force constant performance level" select performance 3D.

    5. Click apply, and reboot the system when prompted.

If for some reason the "Force constant performance level" drop-down is grayed out you will need to go to the "Power users" tab in the initial RivaTuner window. Then click on the "+" next to "RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Overclocking". Look for "EnablePerfLevelForcing" and under Value type 1. Click apply, this should allow you to modify "Force constant performance level." Finally, follow steps 3-5 above.

fixed it for me, never froze again
