Is existence just a recollection of memories?

[Second time I'm writing this, but Chrome decided to be a piece of crap and crashed at when I was 90% done so I'm making it much shorter than I originally planned]

Have you ever once considered that history itself is simply written and regardless of choices, everything is going according to what is set to happen, even our free will? There is possible moments where we may get metaphors or signs to become aware of this possibility.

Five years ago, just on an ordinary day. I met up with a friend without realising she was planning to meet a friend of hers. Until after I met this person, I was not aware of whom it would be, I never knew he existed, but after I’ve encountered this person and came aware of each other’s existence, I suddenly paused for a brief a moment, I then remembered I ‘dreamt’ this event occurring. Everything was ‘exactly’ the same as the dream, the place of meeting, the words exchanged, the weather, everything. This was no coincidence or déjà vu feeling, I did not feel that this happened some point in the past, and for it to be a coincidence, I would of had needed be aware of this individual.

A more recent event is where I was minding my own business, watching the TV while my brother was talking to me (I wasn't paying much attention though) I had this sudden burst of memory of this dream I had of him about to say a certain sentence while my other brother walks in the room, this went according to the dream.

The problem here is that I am aware of these dreams occurring but I do not remember it until the event actually comes to play. But if I came to a point of having complete awareness of these dreams, three certain possibilities are in line here: Firstly I'd not be aware of these dreams being a possible future event going to occur, I'd merely think it is a dream. Secondly, if I happen to know there was an event about to occur such as unintentionally meeting a stranger and I was aware when it was going happen, I have the opportunity to prevent this from happening, but doing so not only have I changed my destiny, I changed the destiny of his. He and I would be doing different activates that wasn’t according to our original destiny and whatever event we are now doing, we are affecting the original destiny that was meant to occur at that point, which has now affected another form of one’s destiny, everything would continue to change continuously. Thirdly, this 'opportunity' was actually just part of what is originally written to happen.

I would say we are probably not meant to have an 'absolute' awareness of history being already set to happen, because it may come quite chaotic if we all literally had these experiences. (*cough* Matrix system). I feel as if existence is just a recollection of memories designed by the sub-conscious, while the Matrix (our existence) is just fulfilling what the sub-conscious couldn't, to have the conscious grant an absolute experience and to become independently aware of what the sub-conscious already knows. And when I say existence I do not mean only life, simply existence.

So the question is: Is history really just a recollecting of memories and is destined to happen in its own way or are we truly independent of our will even though that very will could be part of the recollection?

Side question: If history was already written would that deny the possibilities of time travelling?

P.S: Don't take this information too literal, I'm merely just stating what's on my mind.

nice thread Nuj I have really thought about it many times.

I think destiny happens and you can bend it a bit but time traveling is possible according to physicist and I believe its possible too.

Ty but if time travelling is possible wouldn't it of happened already? (There should be a future 'us') Also doesn't time travelling really mean only going to another present rather than going to a future or past? Everything that is happening is the present, the concept of past and future is just a state of mind if you ask me. It could be possible but I would probably say another universe of us is more likely to be true than time travelling. (Not saying it truly not possible but I do have doubts).

I agree, have you watched the TV series Terranova made by Steven Spielberg? they explain time-traveling and I don't think its impossible man.

you won't regret it, its a nice series and its about time traveling to the past cause the existing earth in 2052 is in danger.

Oh I totally get what you're talking about, this stuff happens to me a lot...and its rather odd and disturbing, happens even in Gamez lol, like if I dreaming the course the conversation would take, particular sentences we'd say, makes me question how repetitive things are here: gay, peado jokes or general *******s, QQing, retards insulting other retards, "trolling", staff raging, staff QQing, drama, people acting the troll, cool guy, smart guy, funny guy, the IT guy etc.

The most recent (trivial, but also a sore topic to me atm) example, few months ago I dreamt I had an unfortunate haircut (sorry my hair means a lot to me) and I was at best...not pleased. For some reason I was mad at my dad, and this week, guess what? I got one - I was not happy. The bizarre accuracy lies in the fact that my dad was with me then, and while he saw this brutal hacking away at my hair - he giggled and didn't say anything, you can imagine how I felt.

This pretty much covers the topic of freewill vs determinism. I'd like to believe life isn't "set in stone" so to speak, but rather we have the individual choice and freewill to determine the course of action we take. Certainly some things are definitely determined, that lies with our social conditioning and own personal thought processes, we will act, think, speak in our own particular ways in similar circumstances due to our background or personality. In regards to this phenomenon, well who knows, the frequency in all this is too far removed to be deemed merely coincidental, but maybe they are. Of the vastness of this universe, the potential events that could occur...once you appreciate how small you are in a massive network of history, life, evolution or what ever you want to call it, you learn to sometimes not be surprised by how things play out - or even at times devalue modern life in place of the bigger network of things. I'll stop it there before I write an essay.

Sorry for the lengthy post, but I thought this was an interesting topic.

Do you know that watching an actual atom is imposible? (in the way as we see things, not a machine)... because to "see" something, light is required... if you send one photon (light particle) towards the atom, you cant see it, because the photon would have changed it enterely (assuming we all know that the process of seeing, is actually the rebound of a given photon) . Same as the future, IF it were already written then "seen it" changes it... even if you do it in the exact same way you know it has to happen. The fact that you know about it already makes is different.... So No, I dont think life is a set of recollecting memories destined to happen, the fact that you dream about an event proves nothing except that you might be looking in for it, thus self suggestin yourself about that given event.

Time is relative, we are actually seeing the lights of starts of million of years ago... so when we look at the sky, we see the past... the future?? No you cant, light has not gone there yet, so we cant see it... thus we cant be there until is time to be there.

The only problem with this here, it is very focused towards physics than metaphysics. And as for already knowing it I've stated what could likely be to occur, especially on the matter of what I stated 'thirdly'. If the matter of the second event happening to be true, then what I stated about a recollection of memories is quite untrue but while still being true because of the third possibility.

Edit: Also if we were truly aware that something we have seen in our dream is going to occur we probably still wouldn't be aware of when it is actually going to occur (unless my chance there was a note telling you when it's going to happen, lol) so how could you de-structure the differences from a possible future event to an ordinary dream? And the one thing about these kind of dreams, it is a very insignificant event that generally lasts for an extremely short period (well mine were).

Yeah well, I see things like that... but you stated: ..."The problem here is that I am aware of these dreams occurring but I do not remember it until the event actually comes to play"... that sounds to me like your mind is being a little trickster with you, and very convenient to think that you could see it as a "recolection of memories" or a fate of some sort. It could be the dream or it could be an imaginative process altogether, sumoned by a word or a recurrent act you dont ever pay attention, but your subcouncios is very well aware.

Suggestion is a powerful thing specially for those that want to see things, and are truly open those events... It could be only a dream, but its the way you interpretate it that can be anything else... councious denial wont remove the subconcious aprehension of the dream, as a fleeting memory that the mind will assemble when parts of the memory are present in a ramdom location, the rest is filled with imagination and the mind wont tell the difference because the dreams last in the memory as an extremely short period, as in your case, and almost everyone else.

Its my personal opinion anyway... i do think that no matter how metaphysical you can be, it wont override the laws of physics that rule the universe... again this is just my opinion.

ugh find the timing quite interesting coz i talked bout this like 2 days ago with another friend of mine. its something she said that gave me the feeling that ive seen this moment happen be4. it does feel really weird xD

however these visions of something that will happen as u stated dont mean u cant make ur own decisions at any time. if u decided to do anything else other than meeting with ur friend, u wouldnt have had this feeling, ur dream would just be a dream, nothing more. as u said, this was a minor event in ur life, doesnt mean all of history is predetermined

Love (passion) but this is probably a subject that I'd have to save for probably another topic since that very word is broad as hell, but it would be good to read a book called The Law of One.

Well instead of mind tricky I'd rather believe it that my I'm at a stage where my mind is not fully aware of it's potential. I guess you could say metaphysics wont override the laws of physics since it generally isn't meant too but I personally believe metaphysics will hold the line of greatest of importance, it focus towards the reasoning rather than how something works (physics). But as long as were independent of our thoughts, there could never be a global truth to any metaphysics.

Eh keep in mind that this doesn't effect your free will to choose how you live, it is not like if this was true, you don't have to do anything because history is written in stone, you still have to make the choices. I'm simply suggesting that the experience is all a recollection of what the sub-conscious already knows.
