shield + sword is odd. i think mace + shield is better imo. u will able to do high damage using Divine justice and magic smash.

LOL..a mace to increase a spell damage on a melee char?NO LOL..
Use a sword and shield and a greatsword, better if the greatsword is an EAT.Use full attack +5 on all (shield/sword/greatsword) and bring your Crit to 560...why 560?
Soft cap is 440,and mean 44% to crit (10 crit = 1%), after the soft cap you need double crit to have 1% so 20=1%.
    120 crit = 120 where 20=1% = 6%...so we got 440 = 44% + 120= 6% = 50% of critical...you dont need more.
Use sword and shield to pull and use stun (Punishment of Light I) followed by Provoking Shield Counter and Punishing Wave II.
Now you have 10 sec to change sword/shield to Greatsword. Use greatsword and do : Weakening Severe Blow V followed by Ferocious Strike V on last hit of chain DONT USE Magic Smash IV use instead Wrath Strike IV because it is a Physical attack so he get bonus and chance to crit (50%). Keep the pressure on your opponent and if you get too much damage use sword and shield again, use your heal spells but keep in mind they have a long cooldown,so use them well...and dont use Iron Skin immediatly, you may waste it..use in middle of battle.
When you use Iron Skin dont use Sword/shield, try instead greatsword to max damage, you have 50% damage redution that can help you to survive well with Greatsword.

LOL if you can stun opponent before they stun you then its good. templar has like five stuns so while you attk stun attk stun. then it good xD

    I'm not a templar,
I can just give you a tip.
There's a skill named "Shield Defense" (No limited time),
It will work untill you will stop it...

    Good luck :)

Asmodians dont have stuns, but they have HP recovery and sometimes is better (but they still have SHIELD STUNS)...The combo is the same, but you need be more carefull and use Sword/shield often instead only greatsword.
Replace Punishment of Light I with other attacks like Punishment V to comlete the combo...
If you have low HP during PvP or duel, if you can use greatsword and use Righteous Punishment I to high damage + Hp managment.
Then the strategy is the same, but without stuns.

So sword is better than mace? the attack for ABG Sword is around 171-211 and with ABG Warhammer its around 164-246. not considering the additional stat for both weapon.

    Greatsword + Sword and shield

Learning to switch between them in battle is a must.

What i usually do is Sword+Shield for most of the battle, to reduce damage, then switch to GS before using a heavy hitting skill, like Punishment of Darkness, then switch back, etc.

Also, socket crit strike till you have 550 with sword and shield, then go with HP(PvE)/Atk(PvP)

And there is no fixed skill set you should use. It's much better to learn as you go. Much more fun ;)

And templar is not a melee class. It's a hybrid. So you CAN use mace+Shield, but I personally prefer to Sword+Shield. Better crits.

You should cap it at a number that doesn't go above the 550 cap.

Not sure what the 1.9 cap is, I go with 550 just to be safe.

    550 is 49% crit, 560 is 50% crit... 1% dont change nothing btw =P

I just dont agree with "mace is good for templar" because :
    Sword have more damage : 161 - 197 + bonus attack +36 = 197-233
Mace have 153 - 231 and no bonus on attack.
Sword have + 50 +78 of critical instead mace have magic boost.

Tbh, Templar have just few magic spells just to heal and just few spells to attack and just for them dont worth keep mace.
AND physical skills have X% of critic, instead spells dont have crit chance just a little more damage.
This is just my opinio by the way.

    IN my Opinion!

I've been playing templar for a long time now...

and tried diff. weapons and skill combos...

    first things first...

    1. Templars Need POtions and scrolls just like any other characters!

Note: No potion means ur dead ALREADY!

    2. maces have good dmg. and high MB.. but, temp. got only one MA. in there arsenal!

so for me it's better to use sword... coz it got good physical attck! and a good crit!

    3. if an enmy is a MAGE or any Magical Attacker! better buff first with empyrean armor to boost 50% of HP, then the use aether buff to reduce MD...

if Melee or any Physical attackers! use EMpyrean, with chastment of darkness if you have DP! this skill should be use at a exact time after a Chain skill! and the most important buff... Iron skin should be use for those heavy blowing PVP players!

if multiple attackers are in you!.. stock up Buffs! and use Healing skill on the Way! with ur Lifeteal ur sure to live long! Dont Forget to switch for a Shield...

    4. At Greatsword! this weapon is ur strongest Arsenal!
Deals Heavy DMG. and a decent Crit!

Just like most of the player already stated! use GS for a finishing Blow or at a Slappy Charcter! and remember it is important to use chain skill if ur using a GS couse you only Got 2 type of stun for a temp! its good to have that extra one!

    Hope that well help!
