gather bots allowed?

Well, I read the rules and I know that bots in general are not allowed, but I am hoping that for real boring activities like Essencetapping or Aether gathering, simple passive bots that just camp a gathering node and activate a macro every 4 minutes or so shouldn't be a crime here (yeah, I know, it's not even very efficient..).

This game already has macros for this kind of repetitive actions -- and they work very well, I already made one that selects a named resource and gathers it 3 times (or 5 times for Aether nodes). Running that macro takes about 30+ seconds -- so I just start it and for 30 seconds I can go afk, continue to watch a movie etc.
I just want to know if I can go one step further to simply loop that macro with a certain delay -- even though in order to achieve this I would need some external program like AutoIt or Autohotkey. This way I would let my character harvest a node for hours while I could go watch a movie, surf the net on another computer etc. Obviously, I could easily get killed by an enemy player doing that (especially for Aether gathering, there is no safe place), but that's a risk I am willing to take. But I wouldn't want to be banned for doing this -- if it's REALLY against the rules.

So, GMs, please tell me honestly, is it OK to do something like this on GamezAion? It's not like this creates a massive disadvantage for other players or anything, I don't think it's really "cheating" (and certainly not hacking).
And after all, if GMs here say No to this kind of basic automation of the process, I'd still do it as I'm doing it now -- by being mostly AFK in the game while I'm gathering, only clicking on that macro button every 4 minutes or so -- which is perfectly "legal", right? :rightful:

 

You have to work for your items. I hope it's not allowed.

I don't think they are allowed, it a form a cheating, not working and becoming better than other players by doing so (if you sell the gathered items).

Wait for a GM reply to this though, I'm not 100% certain.

Ah, what a big mistake I made - using the word "bot" in my post, it's such a loaded term these days in MMOs. And yeah I know using a bot is against the rules, so please don't use that argument, let's be reasonable here.

So let's be clear, I'm not talking about a bot walking around looking for resources etc. I meant to say only "basic task automation" or something that doesn't really involve any AI or even scripting. Actually I believe that what I asked above can be accomplished even by a programmable keyboard like Logitech's G15. So, no, that's NOT A BOT

Well, there is not much "work" to begin with, is it? It's just about clicking that macro button every 4 minutes or so -- which is perfectly legal. Your character is locked in doing that anyway (if you want to gather a specific resource). I do that without thinking now, anyway (I don't pay attention to the game, I just click the macro icon every 4 minutes or so -- when the resource respawns -- so I can do something else at the same time on my other computer screen ).

And for those making this "you have to work" argument, perhaps you should consider that there is already a basic macro language available in Aion, so one can automate many simple tasks, and that is officially supported.
For example, as a chanter or a cleric you can easily have a macro that would allow you to buff every member of your group with a single click (or a shortcut key). Would you say to the people using these macros "no, that's cheating, you have to work for it" -- that is, you should instead select each member of the group to manually click the skill to apply the buff on each of them.

Any outstanding help of non inplugged soft by GMs, Mods, etc. is seeing as "hacking".
Example: your "autoloout/autogather" is a non official part of the game. It's seen as a BOT and like you already know, it's not allowed. Basically any glitch is seen as an advantage over other players and is bannable (it should be at least XD).
Finally...if I'm not mistaken, there is a thread about it in the Forum rules...or game rules...or what ever XD stuf like this should be listed there.

So all in one: I'm 99% sure that it's forbidden.

Just gathering seems harmless to me and it doesn't hurt to ask. I'm sure we all would like to do something else while our character runs around grabbing sapphires.

im telling you now, people have been banned for botting, if u bot, u will be ip banned

 

I play for about a week, im 54 with some items that i got from DP.... Now i start to raise my gather/aether cause scrools and pots, its a pain in the ass cause Assmos keep showing in Heiron when i try to colect but in 2 days i manage to raise both to 300 and now i started Alchemy too(320)...
Im losing my time, time that i could be in DP or farming AP to do that, why should be easy for u???
