Well I met this one kind gentlewomen who overheard my conversation with a friend while on the bus ride home. My friend and I were talking about who's going to be the better Dr. and who's face will always come out of the medical newspapers or w/e its called, to bad he doesn't want to pursue a career as a Doctor anymore but I am still on that path. Well anyways she interrupted our conversation but to inform us that she was going to Med School after this year was over. She told gave us all this other information that isn't so important but one thing that really caught my attention was the fact that she stated "In my opinion its better if you go out of state to study for Med. School than to stay in State." The state were talking about is Los Angele's. She made some valid points as to why one being you save money because you don't have to take the MCAT test to make yourself seem more competitive or have to get a Bachelors degree, also she stated that if we were to take this decision we could always come back but we would have to take a test to give us the right to work in US Hospitals or wherever you wish to work.

My Point being is would you rather go out of state to study Med School? If so why? or Would you rather stay in state? If so why

My position is staying in state. My reasons would be because I'm more familiar with the place I know my way around it and because I feel comfortable here and wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks to take an MCAT test as well as getting a Bachelors Degree.

The whole point to this thread is just based on opinion and because I'm curious.

*Ooo Fun Fact the MCAT is changing in 2015 but the new test will be distributed to those taking it in 2016.*

ahh very interesting fact and we are on the same path Played :)

For me i'll stay in the State (Texas) cuz i know a lot of people here and just like u said im more familiar with it but i think for me some state give more opportunity like dont have to take MCAT or maybe some scholarships for the med career so it is not hurt to move to another state to save money and save time :>

    1) If you go out of state you still need to take the MCAT.

    2) It's much easier to get accepted to any medical school as an in-state applicant.

    3) Look up out of state tuition rates. It's not pretty.

    4) Unless you want to go to the Caribbean you'll need to take the MCAT. Good luck getting matched with a decent residency program if you decide to follow that route.

The MCAT isn't nearly as tough as COMLEX Level 1 or boards. Trust me. You'll look back on it and laugh by the time you're through.

My advice: Suck it up. Have no life in university - graduate Summa Cum Laude - get that 35+ on the MCAT and go to the school of your dreams (unless you're an overrepresented minority~).

As for the prospective Texas applicant, I was actually accepted to UT Southwestern. I deferred admittance to their M1 class last year due to a decent job I got working in the OR - get to actually practice on patients with the anesthesiologist. I'm reapping to Columbia this cycle. If I get in I'll go there - if not I'll go to UT SW.

P.S I would take the MCAT before those future changes. At least you know what to expect in the MCAT's current incarnation.

As an Asian living in California, I should be getting the hell out of here if I want to have any chance at all.

i did notice how many asians are there...

anyway that was supposed to be a joke. referring to asian memes...

on the serious note, you should put more confidence in your self. Similar to what sileria was saying, it's not as bad as you think when you get there. you should be laughing at it when your done.

The odds are really stacked up though. I'm also not a stereotype kind of Asian. I like reading novels, games, writing....

Call me a Jack of all trades, but a master of none. That suits me.

In my opinion getting into a college is way more harder than getting into a Med School since there's only a handful of people that do decided on going down this path also there are many Med School's out there such as Harvard Stanford UCLA John Hopkins The one Frantos mentioned and many more. My goal is to get into John Hopkins Medical School after the 4 years of College. I know many people apply to John Hopkins and its a very competitive school to get into but thats not going to stop me from trying, as for College my goal is to get into UCLA and i'll do everything in my power to get into that school and if it turns out i don't get accepted i can at least say i tried and its not like schools are limited you can always transfer. Don't let yourself become a scapegoat, you got this!

right... i always say to my self, it's better you got there and tried than think "what if"... if you get what i mean.

    attitude gets you there.

It's always the dreadful tuition fees which demoralises individuals. The debilitating numbers doesn't help. I'd choose to go out of state/country if I could afford it all. Bank loans would help but after graduating, the burden of having to pay off the debt would set in. A large contributor to stress.
