Already posted in THW, but am posting here also for faster input.

I own a XFX Radeon HD 5770. Earlier today, I was going to upgrade the driver for it, but accidentally used DriverSweeper first instead of the express uninstaller option that came with Catalyst [IMG]. Now when I try installing the driver with the card plugged in, the monitor just abruptly goes to sleep, making it impossible to navigate the installer. I've also tried this with another monitor to no avail.

It's also worth noting that in earlier
driver updates, the card also ran really loudly during the process, but did not have any displaying problem. I suspect that the card is giving out already, but then again, I'm not sure if it was because of the card, or my PEBKAC.

Thanks in advance,

ghost521

1.Unplug your Video Card
2.Plug your HDMI or DVI-D Cable to your Motherboard Boot it if it doesn't give Signal on the Monitor do a CMOS Reset.
3.Boot into Windows Install AMD Drivers it will probably prompt you to restart it after it finishes.
4.Plug back everything as you had it before.

I did this, and the installation finished with a complete (with warnings) dialogue box. When I plugged the card back in, I don't think it recognized the driver, as it didn't switch to a higher resolution as it did before, and I couldn't access Catalyst :/

Redo Steps 1 and 2 and this time run Driver Sweeper make sure it cleans everything out restart your system when windows is fully booted, install AMD Drivers and try plugging back your Video Card.

I just read on overclock.net that Driver Sweeper is no good that you should always uninstall AMD Driver using the Tool they Provide, use this AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.2.7z | Game Front Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.2.7z instead to clean out any corrupted driver files left on your system.

Did errythang as told. Installer did not prompt restart message as supposed to (which is not a good sign).
Fresh OS re-installation?

Sounds like your comp needs an oil change. Just take it down to your local computer place and it should be K.

Havent you though of firmware update or reset? Sometimes those get screwed up and nothing on the planet its gonna make them run again unless you get a new ones... Just my guess might be totally off mark.

This is why I hate douche ati cards.

I mean, the computer DOES recognize the card there. The screen displays for...6-7 minutes at best, then it goes to sleep (even when the card is still evidently running).

What the hell. Time to ditch ATI.

if you have win 7 ....after completely uninstalling the previous drivers try checking with windows update in case it spots the driver and installs it automatically.

I don't wanna give you any false hope or anything but it is one solution you can try....

It could work, if only the card could keep the computer displaying for more than 6-7 minutes D:
I strongly believe that it's time for the card to visit the graveyard. I could do a RMA, but I can't seem to find its receipt anywhere.

It has nothing to do with it... there is a hardware pluged in, electricity is circulating and its sending signals, but firmware are what makes the software function with the hardware... you have hardware working and your machine knows it, but the software is refusing to visualize the card work... hence its why I think it might be firmware. Bad news about firmware is that sometimes they screw the chipset.

Well again it might not be that... you could also try to format your machine a do a clean install of the drivers, that never fails.

as I've read on one of your posts you checked with other monitors too right?
So there is no chance that the monitor is causing this issue....

So some extra things could be.

-remove and reset your video card - being sure that it is seated firmly into the slot.
-carefully but thoroughly clean out the fan and heatsinks on the video card.
-checking the psu for power failure.sometimes a psu can do weird things to your comp.....like imitate problems...

this list of random checking could go on and on....so if you decided to do a fresh windows install...try it and see what happens.
If the problem persists then you most definitely have a hardware issue.

Edit : if you have a hardware issue pm me and I'll try to help in anyway I can.

I get what you say.
Nonetheless, I think it's time to ditch ATI and switch to nvidia.

Also Arch, I live in a 1-floor house.
