hmm where have we seen this one before :p oh so typical

theres also a nice article from a guy who used to run the programs at uganda who disagrees with the way the movie portrays things as well as their obvious factual errors and misrepresentation

"Additionally, the LRA does not have 30,000 mindless child soldiers. This grim figure, cited by Invisible Children in the film (and by others) refers to the total number of kids abducted by the LRA over nearly 30 years. Eerily, it is also the same number estimated for the total killed in the more than 20 years of conflict in Northern Uganda."

also another funny fact, they only actually spend less than 1/3 of the money they raise, most of it goes on their own salaries and movie production

"The accounts suggest nearly 25% of its $8.8m income last year was spent on travel and film-making with only around 30% going toward programes on the ground. The great majority of the money raised has been spent in the US. $1.7 million went on US employee salaries, $357,000 in film costs, $850,000 in film production costs, $244,000 in “professional services” – thought to be Washington lobbyists – and $1.07 million in travel expenses . Nearly $400,000 was spent on office rent in San Diego."

It's inevitable. They were running around making films, unlike other non-profit organizations that would prefer to not go publicized.

Even then, nothing in charity goes up to 100%.

I agree with your skepticism, however. I still stand by the point that IC has been successful at what they're doing: raising awareness.

OR they use completely free media

lets face it, the most publicity came from a youtube vid (FREE host) based on a 30 minute video using a handheld camera (virtually free)

its something a film making class kids did at my high school (was an elective class)

and seriously? theres a little over 100 employees, thats a hell of a lot on traveling and salaries. even the rent is ridiculous lol, can find a cheaper location >.>

I'm pretty sure if it was shoddily made, the impact wouldn't have been as big. Plus, it's not like it all happened in one take. I'm pretty sure the footage is from various occasions, back and forth between the states and Uganda.

Location and employees-wise, I can't say much because it's not my expertise :/

the film costs and production costs are separate from travel expenses. so regardless of how many places they traveled to, that sum is ridiculous. btw thats only from the financial statement for 2011 :p

when i read through the actual statement, they also charged entertainment and some other bs under the "program"

just think for a non-profit they spend a little too much on irrelevant stuff, mainly since the money comes from donations (website donate button). btw many non-profits work on volunteer basis, this one gets a very decent salary :p

    the awareness is good...

but... the methods they are using to try and capture the person is probably not.

you don't fight violence with violence. violence should end.

While you are all debating about the way their donation money is spent, the facts still remain, these Children are still being tken from the familes, raped, forced to handle guns, kill people, all for guy that hardly anyone knows about except throught that video made at the start of this thread.
So they dont spend the money how you like.. its called a donation, you dont have to donate if you dont want to. The way i understood the video is they want people to be aware of this sick individual Kony. Make the public aware to make them care, then the governments will have to take note (else they dont get elected back in) I cant afford to donate but i show that vid link to my friends and ask them to pass it along. And when they catch the guy (not if) i really dont care what they do to him, cos if he did that to my child, id cut his throat myself, violence begets violence.. maybe but some people just dont know any other way.
    Peace!

I remember reading a book, one of the more moving reads I have had in the past anyway.

It is called A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier. I think that book spoke louder to me than any video rich white philanthropists can make, it was a memoirs from what a child experienced after being abducted by the RUF in Sierra Leone, quite a graphic story at any rate.

Jason Russell, who directed and starred in the “Kony 2012” video that has been viewed more than 100 million times this month, was detained by the San Diego Police Department on Thursday, accused of masturbating in public and vandalizing cars, NBC San Diego reports. He was later hospitalized after an evaluation.LOL!
