Crap PC,need ideas

The title pretty much says it all,let me explain it a bit though.

My pc is old,as in..from 2007. I have changed alot of parts by the passing of the years,some just got burned,some i changed cause i bought something better. And anyway at the moment my PC cant really handle aion so well. I can play in the normal engine and in high graphics but not in the HIGH engine,i can do pve and just stay at sanctum,doesnt lag much. But when i pvp i really need to play in shift+f12 especially in zergs. All the skills are set to OFF,i can only see my own skills,even if i lower the graphics while pvping it still lags. Even if one dot pops up in my compass it ll still lag,its kinda pathetic.I need some advice from those who know what they are talking about. Im not so noob when it comes to PC but i just need some ideas and help.

Current PC
CPU AMD Athlon 64x2 3.01 GH (dual core)
Ram 4GB DDR2 (but i use xp so it reads 3gb only)
Hard drive 620 GB,windows and aion are on the 120gb SATA1 and i got an extra 500gb sata2 for other stuff. Im thinking that the very old sata1 could be one of the reasons of my lag,since i got both aion and windows loaded on that hard drive. When i start my pc it also says that the status of the hard drive is bad and it should be replaced xD
GPU Nvidia GT440 1GB DDR5
Motherboard Asus M2N
Screen fkin old (dont really know if the screen has anything to do with the lag,but i doubt it since i dont play in HD graphics)

Need some ideas if i should change some parts of the PC or just let it as is and get a new one. Or at least whats the cause of my lag. The graphic card was recently changed,i used to have the nvidia GT8500 (very old graphic card,i could barely pvp even in the lowest graphics).

So whats the problem,the graphic card should be able to do better than it does,the cpu is old but not that slow,the ram seems decent to me. Maybe its the whole package idk or maybe its the problematic hard drive.

Planning to get a new PC asap,but i just dont know what to do with this one,change the part that causes the problem or just let it as is. Of course need to find out if there is a part that causes me to lag,or its the whole package.

well my old comp was worse than yours and it could handle aion

u just need to turn shadows off...

but i wouldnt upgrade your system anymore since u have an old motherboard ;x
u would need to buy a new mother board new memory and new processor so its better to buy a new one.. anyway i like your video card its not that bad and can handle aion with no problems

 

better buy piece by piece long time ago i even cant go ingg after i change my procesor for one amd quad core its works great 20-30 fps in zerg

 

he cant buy piece by piece lol, he already has to replace his motherboard if he wants a new processor (and yea dual cores r kinda bad these days)

he might wanna get more ram (its kinda cheap) and maybe buy a 2nd identical graphics card to set up in sli/crossfire

 

Any idea what is the cause of the lag? I know that the whole package is old but i dont understand whats with the lag,it should be doing better. You think it could be the old and "bad" hard drive?

 

motherboard is cheap like 50e more procesor quad core 100e .....

The processor may be some of the cause, the sata 1 hard drive sounds like the main problem here.
Also what is the data bus speed of your parts? MB, Memory, etc... your memory is dual channel? (ddr2 is kind of old in today gamming standarts) how many dimms?
The card is not middle tier but is not bad either, memory is good too.

Also, if I may know. What is your budget?

 

well harddrives wear out and slow down over time. u also havent mentioned the rpm on it. though harddrives generally only increase loading times, they dont cause lagg

btw ur monitor is irrelevant, its just an output medium so it cant cause lagg

make sure ur antialiasing is off as that 1 has ridiculous impact on ur fps with no real visual improvement. and yea shadows r kinda demanding too

btw most of us lagg inside zergs, its not just ur pc

oh and btw its not coz its xp that it reads 3gb but coz its 32bit 32bit systems can only read 3-3.5gb, rest goes towards shared graphics memory

Well i really dont want to spend money for this PC unless i know what exactly causes the problem. I guess changing the hard drive wont be a problem since they are cheap.

But generally if i buy a new pc (no monitor,no keyboard or mouse) i guess id be willing to spend around 700euro. I ll probably do that soon.

Atm mostly interested to find whats the problem of my pc,IF there is a part that if i change would improve my aion gaming,i would. But if we talk about the whole thing ie motherboard,cpu etc then id prefer to not change anything at all since soon im planning to get a new pc.

 

well u might wanna give us sample fps so we have an idea as to how ur doing u havent said any yet

like...in a town, empty place somewhere, pvp, crowded place (pandaemonium doesnt count, its badly coded and every1 gets crap fps there)

oh and plz dont stare at the sky i get like 160-180 fps when i do that xD

 

The fact your OS uses 3 Gb isnt because of XP. Its because u use a 32 bit OS instead of 64 bit

i would go for the cheep i3 i5 i7 cpus. they are also easy to overclock to higher speeds.
for the ram i would look at the clock speeds and not focus to much on how much they are but 4gb+ is kinda minumum now days.
whats ur ATX ? watt
like others say might wanna buy one more gpu to run them in SLI.
if not i know ati has some really cheep cards u can buy and make "sli/crossfire" since ur card currently "only" has 1gb and is probably ddr3. so i would rather get a new while im at it with ddr5 for the future upgrades u might wanna do.
for HD they have gone up in price since the accident in WD factory's with the flooding´s so might wanna hold of on them.

 

um his graphics card is ddr5 and its actually a total waste to buy radeons since u cant combine it with his already decent geforce card. if hes gonna dual up he should get a 2nd geforce

also id exclude i3 processors just coz of lack of cores. for a desktop id either go for the i5 which is high clock speed (dual core, virtual quad) or i7 (quad core, virtual 8 core)

many applications r becoming more multithreaded with multicore support which can take advantage of additional cores

like i get 60 fps on aion regular engine max settings on a laptop with i7 that has 1.6ghz clock speed have a laptop graphics card geforce gtx 260m which is weaker than his

but yea aion is RAM hungry so getting a faster ram and more of it would help quite a bit

 

At gelk in empty place near a lake,just gathering i get 34-48 fps.
Looking at the sky at the same spot i get 50-59 fps
At verteron city with some people and npcs hanging out i get 25-40fps no shift+f12
in windstream in inggi i get 30-45 fps
in inggison near scales while running with nobody around i get 40fps
Inggi fortress owned by balaur i had 20-30 fps
20-28 fps without shift+f12 in a place where ely are camping asmo kisks so there is around 30 ppl asmo/ely
Same spot with same amount of ppl but with shift+f12 i get 35-45fps
15-25fps at sanctum warehouse with lots of ppl marketing no shift+f12
same place on shift+f12 38-58 fps

And what sucks is that whenever there are npcs and their graphics load i lag so much,same goes when im not on shift+f12 and the peoples graphics load,lags like hell..

I play in normal engine in these settings
