Chanters - The new tanks? :D

Today we were doing besh (A group of randoms from LFG) with a nice looking group.

So, the run started off okay, with the templar running though the mobs, just like templars do.. We do all the crap to get to the first boss and bla. We ask the templar to let the ranger get the first and last hit, due to him being VIP, but he ignores it and gets the first hit, and dies right away from that weird glitch thing. So I took aggro and started tanking as he was getting ressed. But, when he got ressed he either didn't taunt once or didn't know how to pull aggro and left me tanking the rest of the fight. When he gets to 10% hp or so we ask him to stop dps'ing so the ranger can get the last hit to improve our chances of loot. (He didn't and we got golds).

We go destroy the tombstones for the next guy and have problems there, but I'm used to that. When we get there the cleric had to go afk for 5 minutes. We waited for 1 minute and the templar ran in. Me, not wanting to lose him so early just went with it and solo healed, being a chanter with only 4 heals, 2 of which are long casts and not that good of heals, it's hard to solo heal at times. But, I managed to keep him alive.. We only get plate boots and he gets even though he has full enraged whatever +15'd and someone else in group needed.. But oh well.

We carry on to go kill Dora having problems getting there because he doesn't want to tank the mobs for whatever reason, so I put on my defensive mantras and ran though them all, miraculously surviving. We fight dora, with me Tanking of course, and get 3 of the pauldrons (Cloth, leather, plate) and I start calling who gets what. (Templar - Plate) (Ranger - Leather) (SM - Cloth) what had actually happend. Templar rolled on the cloth and leather. Won the leather, almost won the cloth, so I put on normal loot and took the palte. He didn't say anything and the ranger left.

We continue on the flarestorm and have some troubles deciding what we were gonna do, but we eventually did it. We didn't get much of a loot, but we did get the cleric shield (Enmity -) and the temp tried to steal it (Of course) but failed, we also got the FS dagger, but the temp left and the group let me have. So there we were sitting around with no templar and down 1 dps. We lfg for about ten minutes but only find 1 ranger who dies in SC and leaves. Then, we got a good sin who made his way all the way to FS without getting hit, and joined us promptly.

We continue to LFG for a templar, but the only one we get kept dying and yelling at us in some foreign language. So I got annoyed and kicked him, we lfg for a little bit mroe, but the team is getting discouraged and wants to go. So I suggest that I tank because I'm SOO PRO, me being full of myself. We get to the second to last boss and get everything ready, DP, Pots, Scrolls, Cooldowns, etc. And get goin. It was a long and hard fight but we eventually got him with only a few deaths of the sorc, but other than that went rather smooth due to pro tanking (me) and pro healing by the cleric. We get a few legging drops and I try to spread them evenly, but the SM tried to steal everything just like the temp, so I had to kick her for taking the plate that was gonna be given to me and she was gonna get the leggings, but no, she took the plate and tried to take the cloth and leather as well. So, she got kicked.

Stormwing was easy, he always is, but this time the SORC decided she was feeling brave enough to tank, and she did, and she did a good job. We ended up getting 4 sw weapons at once, and we started sharing and everyone was happy. The end..

Chanters were always a tanker, just need the right stigmas, gears and manastone build.

 

Chanter has always been a good tank :3

 

It's a known fact that Chanters can out tank a Temp in PvE.

Block set + Damage reduction skills + self heals. Just have to build aggro first, with cleric healing you.

I think the templar is a noob and you should have kicked him out of the group since you are fulfilled his duties..

Lol i really dont see how is that a surprise. First of all chanters wear chain set which has very high defense,second they can wear shield and mace with block or hp stones. But even if you dont wear any defensive manastones you can still easily tank most of the bosses. I have tanked world boss menotios with cleric on 3 log on a same pc. My wife's gladiator hitting the boss on auto-attack afk mode,me on cleric tanking and dps-healing and my sm on a 3rd log on stand-by waiting to debuff the boss when needed. Its totally possible to tank with chanter,and even better with cleric,cause clerics can heal them selves much better than chanters. Nothing new.

And btw,cool story but its the usual thing when you do instances with noobs. Stormwing instance first all is so easy,if you want decent final drops why dont you do yamennes? The boss drops 21 weapons,i used to do yamennes every 2 days with just my cleric and my wife's gladiator.

I always knew I was kinda tanky, but I didn't think I could out-tank a full +15 enraged whatever-it's called with me wearing full SW (- boost)

Same as above.

The gear I was wearing was Full SW - hauberk with all hp 95's and + 15'd and my SW shield all block 27's and 15'd (the reason I lived). Yeah, it ran smoother than without the templar, I didn't expect that, my next challenge - Tank all of besh without having a Templar in the first place.

Yeah, I just didn't know I could tank it personally or I would have, ninja + bad Templar. ;s

I can EASILY tank on my cleric, just not on my chanter, clerics have way better heals.
And, I have never done it, nor can ever find a group who speaks English to do it, but I would love to, would I have to go temp to tank, or would I be okay with my Chanter?

How did you out tank him? Out tank as in him not being able to hold aggro? That is hardly the definition of "out tank". Like you said, the templar was a noob and didn't use any taunts. You expect templars to hold aggro through dps alone?

 

well congrats
so why dont u try to be a DPS/killer when u already able to be a tank?
a chanter with full abg set (manastone full attack) and a cleric behind him will be a better killer in a short range battle than a glad
(imagine, that chanter can reach attack stats 1k)
use a title that give u attack speed and u will be faster than an assassin

 

He wasn't holding aggro at all, I took almost all of the hits from him, and i wasn't doing almost any dps. And, yes I do. When he was wearing full crit and attack with enmity boost set, yes, I do. I had all HP's and Blocks, and - enmity negative.

Well I only tank cause I had 14k hp.

But yeah, that sounds scary.

 

Well, I knew I could tank to an extent.. But out-tanking the Templar is the main point of this, have defensive mantras up along with my heals made it easy (Also a good Cleric helped). As for looting, No one was Vip except the ranger, but I didn't trust him for a second. I try to get it fair for everyone, but sometimes it just doesn't work. But they blew their CD's and got little in return.

As far as the first and last hitting, I believe that's a myth, and the vip just has to be in the party, or do damage. Idk though.

 

I only have HP stones atm, only because they're cheap. :3

When I get more money, I'll get blocks.

But, I don't think the looting matters, Loot is loot, it doesn't change who loots it. It drops what it's gonna drop whoever loots it has no effect (retail)
