China tries to prove that they are also the major powers and want to test their weapons on a small country like the Phils

from wut i've know.. the first post contains much conflicting information, and information not valid... ph tried to evacuate all non-ph properties on that island first, which pissed off China.. and for that 200 nautical-mile border, it was never passed as an international law.. China has insisted that the island is their land since ancient times..(well, since historical times and they insist that they have back-up proofs, but no-one seems to care..).. And China only claim THAT island to be their (majority of the islands there belong to vietnam, which also seems to want that island and is against China), and china is sharing the island with PH untill PH announced that they're trying to "evacuate all non-ph properties on that island", and that really really pisses china.. and that doesnt sound like PH wasts to deal with it diplomatically, does it?.. =/. man ppl.. seriously.. =.=ll..

You got so fk'ed up way of thinking. China is freaking greedy country and it claims territories that NEVER belonged to it, nor will ever belong in the future.

China should be dominated again by Japan, as it was in the past, so it will shut its mouth for expansions in sea.

FYI - there is a sea law which China is not respecting as it is following its own sea law. This just shows how much of an arrogant country China is.

First, the Chinese Government had never released any statement of them resorting to war, the talk of war came out from some nationalistic idiotic journalist in one of China's Prominent Newspaper editorial, although there were statements hinted by their Foreign Secretary of armed confrontations if things escalated.

Second, China as of now cannot just simply declare war on its weak neighbors, The world is obviously watching and if ever there is a possibility of war it will look like China is bullying its neighbor. Philippines strategy is quite amusing in seeking International attention which will somehow deter China from flexing its military muscles in the West Philippine Sea.

Third, What can China do* for now though is to implement economic sanctions to the Philippines, which they are currently doing by putting a ban on our export of banana's and travel ban for Chinese tourist bound for Philippines.

Fourth, Due to Philippines insistence of resolving the matter to ITLOS (International Tribunal for the Law Of the SEA) which China greatly oppose (due to the fact that they cant prove anything in the International tribunal regarding their claims) China cannot just simply engage in a war especially its enemy is showing an intent of peaceful resolution.

Fifth, Our country, the Philippines although poorly armed against invasive forces can still invoke its Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) with the United States which they affirmed that they will come in our rescue if ever we will be attacked, although they distanced from the issue regarding the disputes of territorial claims.

Lastly, No matter which angle you look at it, China's overlapping claims is an obvious act of disrespect to a states territory and sovereignty. Whether historically or by the means of Laws of the Sea, the Philippines can show evidences supporting its claims.

Get your facts straight. The rift in the Scarborough started when these Chinese poachers were caught catching and taking endangered species in the said region of the Philippine waters. They've been allowed to fish in the area together with the Filipino fishermen but obviously when they took giant clams and some endangered sea species in which under Philippine Law is illegal.

Regarding the UNCLOS, you said it never became a law? Oh come on it is, Only that some few nations didn't signed the treaty but unfortunately China is one of the signatories of that Law, so why wont they abide. Philippines has the right to area covered by its 200 NM Exclusive Economic Zone since it's a archipelagic state, while China is not.
