Harassment in the world of online gaming

Hey folks,

So I was reading some articles published by BBC and some other newspapers about the harassment -sometimes sexual- that people get, especially women, when they play online games.

By default, men have thick skin and they can stand the rude behavior. The women should grow thicker skin, because on the internet people are rude.

In Aion the harassment is not that great, but in other games that I've played, like WoW, DotA, LoL, you can see it more often and it is more offensive.


What do you think that leads to it? Why do women are getting attacked more often? What do you do when you enough is enough?

Because one do not simply understand how important a woman in real life.

 

For example, when my gf and I, play LoL: When someone will start whining and insulting me because I didn't save him since I'm the tank in the team or if I KS'ed him, etc, all I do is to ignore because I don't really give a damn about nub people who care about biatcing w someone in a game. My gf on the other hand, she takes it more personally and feels offended by it. Hence, I have to get involved in order to stop the cat fight and of course defend my gf.

The thing is that in online games, people curse and insult so easy. Without a second thought they will call you noob, stupid, unskilled, troll, they will tell you to suck this and to do that, to get there, etc.

 

u would be surprised how girls flame others in games...

Because they can't get physical contact while playing Online games so shit happens. Also they think they wouldn't be banned for life though.

I totally agree josesimmanuel said, those people doesn't know it, since most of them are IGNORANT.

 

It's funny how people who talk trash in games, suddenly shut it up when I say that I have a SS and I intend to post it on the forums. Then they become like the good pets who keep quiet and calm xD

I believe that the most gamers who talk trash in games are kids of the age 10+ or just brainless adults who wants to act cool and insult others like a BOSS behind a screen. Because if they really had the guts, they wouldn't stop when they got punished for the negative attitude of theirs.

Maybe. Who knows. The only troll who I admired was the CounterTroll, who is no longer active here. He was funny in a way... lolz

When it comes to dota, it depends.. I've seen many users to flame each other for making mistakes in most of the pub games, Yet it doens't happen in CM's nor LAN stuff.
I quite never got why do they flame between each other for a common mistake anyone could possibly make.. Even the "best" players can make a mistake from time to time, yet noone's gonna flame him/her for doing so.
I'll have to admit I don't really like to get flamed for no reason or due to past events yet I decided not to care about it anymore lul :3

But yah.. My Brother plays COD and they're constantly flaming each other.. Looks like some people take some games too serious when they're just supposed to be something where they can have fun, whether with friends or not.

some girls and mens are taking it personally because they're not used to it... i my self just dont give a sh*t. on those Trashtalks they give to me.. its not like a im perfect player... so gtfo them

CounterTroll is another funny guy who used to amuse us w his table flips.. ^^;


As for the LoL: It has the same community as DotA (had) or COD. People tend to curse and call each other weak, noob, etc. The problem w the LoL and the main difference that its community can't realize is that LoL is not DotA like game style. While in DotA you can survive alone, in LoL it's all about the team fights and not about the kills.
