List your top 10 films of all time. Try to make them good! Here's mine.

    1. 12 Angry Men 12 Angry Men (1957) - IMDb - A perfect movie in every sense. The time limit, the acting, the dialogue, the minimalist setting, everything. There's not much to the movie, but despite being Black and White, void of any action, and old, it is my favorite movie of all time, and arguably the best movie ever made. No movie has ever completely enveloped me like this one has. If there is one black and white film you see, make it this one.

    2. Vertigo Vertigo (1958) - IMDb - Hitchcock has made tons of great movies, so it was hard for me to choose my favorite. Vertigo is, to me, his crowning achievement, not Psycho. In Vertigo, the master of suspense is at it again. Everything is eerie, and the weird, offbeat plot draws you in. It's not your typical detective movie. It's dark and gritty and amazing.

    3. Shawshank Redemption The Shawshank Redemption (1994) - IMDb - What can I say. If you haven't seen this movie, I pity you. Go find it on TV, it's probably playing right now. This is the best "bro" movie you will ever find. It also has one of the best endings in history. Morgan Freeman narrates, so you also get to hear one of the best voices in Hollywood.

    4. Schindler's List Schindler's List (1993) - IMDb - Spielberg's Holocaust tale is another movie that is almost perfectly made. The minimal use of colors, the acting by Liam Neeson, the hefty themes, the emotional resonance, all are on their highest level here. It's a sad story as is any Holocaust movie, but also a story of heroism and defiance in the face of monstrosities. A very powerful movie.

    5. Memento Memento (2000) - IMDb - This is the best puzzle movie you will ever see. It uses a very unconventional narrative structure. The film starts from the end and goes backwards; however, there are black and white sequences that start from the beginning and go forward and they are interjected between the color sequences (backwards ones). It's confusing at first, but extremely rewarding once you get it. Truly showcases Nolan's brilliance in tying together a brilliant plot about a man who suffers from anterograde amnesia and his quest for revenge.

    6. The Usual Suspects The Usual Suspects (1995) - IMDb - The best thriller I've ever seen. Watch it. The plot twists are great, and my favorite mystery movie. Whodunit's don't get better than this.

    7. The Dark Knight The Dark Knight (2008) - IMDb - What can be said about this movie that hasn't been said already. It's not your typical comic movie. Heath Ledger will go down in history as one of the best pairings of character and actor of ALL TIME. This (and the new one, The Dark Knight Rises), take comic book movies to their furthest extent. Very dark, very gritty, very good.

    8. City of God City of God (2002) - IMDb - I put this over the Godfather. I love the Godfather, and to me, the Godfather is a better made movie, but City of God was more emotionally resonating. It's a foreign film that follows two kids who grow up in the favelas of Rio de Janiero. One wants to be a photographer, the other a drug lord. It's sad, violent, and haunting. A very well told tale of life in the slums for children, but not an easy movie to watch.

    9. It's a Wonderful Life It's a Wonderful Life (1946) - IMDb - You've probably seen it, but if you haven't, what's wrong with you? This is the prototypical Holiday movie, a movie that one has to watch during Christmas. While it starts out sad, it's uplifting and ends with a very powerful, happy, and optimistic message.

    10. To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) - IMDb - Based on the book by Harper Lee (which you all probably read for school). Atticus Finch is one of the best character/actor combos (like Heath Ledger), and it really is a powerful movie. I placed this here because the book and movie have such literary importance, but I think I could have placed 20 different movies here. Still, TKM is one of the best literary adaptions you will ever see.

I wish I could place a Kubrick film somewhere here (along with many other great movies), but I seem to have run out of space. Either way, yours now.

I have yet to see Downfall. I liked Oldboy and Fight Club, but they're not in my top 10. The Green Mile was meh. I didn't like the fantasy aspect. It just didn't feel natural to the movie.

I like a bit of Asian Cinema (Seven Samurai, Spirited Away, Oldboy, etc.), just not top 10 worthy.

    In no specific order:

Fight Club. (someone already mentioned, but when I think good movies, it gets noted)
    Inception.
    The 5th Element.
    Gladiator. (Are you not entertained?)
    Full Metal Jacket.
    V For Vendetta.
    Shutter Island.
    Pulp Fiction.
The Matrix. (Great Philosophy, as with Fight club and Inception)
Star Wars saga. (Cause I'm a nerd like that)

What was the philosophy of Inception ;o. I like Nolan, but after seeing Inception like 5-6 times, I realized it was nowhere near as good as his other work (Memento, Batman, the Prestige).

Love Pulp Fiction, Shutter Island, the Matrix, V for Vendetta, Gladiator, and Fight Club. Full Metal Jacket's first half is absolutely stunning.

Overall, I like your list ;P

Inception centers around the idea that nothing is real. Much like the matrix, they all share a reality that is created, and that they are all dreaming. It brings a question to mind--Are we?

I'm very much a fan of inception, and think it's his best film. Not by a lot, he has directed Batman of course. Great film, incredibly well directed, and transitioned so nicely, but not as mentally stimulating as Inception.

^ Now that's a list. I'd love to make my top 100, but it's impractical. Good to see that you have great taste. Lots of those movies I love also.

@Deadlychants, have you seen Memento and the Prestige? If not, watch them. You might change your opinion also after that. I loved Inception a lot at first also, but it just doesn't hold up on repeat viewings.
