    On an offtopic note, I've usually tried to distance myself from anime. Frankly, I don't think it's any good. However, I stumbled upon Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, and I must say, he is better than even Walt Disney. Now, don't get me wrong, the only other anime movie I could stomach was called Grave of the Fireflies, and that was probably because it was realism that just happened to be in an anime medium. I don't know what it is about normal anime that irks me, but my question was, do you have any anime of the quality and caliber of those movies I just named? Movies, not TV shows. I tried watching all the popular TV shows and had to stop. None can even come close to comparing to Breaking Bad/Sopranos/The Wire ;P.

    Anime that I would like, not anime (the general kind) with young girls that only appeal to pedos, over-the-top mecha stuff, chessy, happy-go-lucky, etc. Basically, GOOD anime movies. The ones I've seen are Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Grave of the Fireflies, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle. The last 3 were decent/above average for me. I liked the first 3 a lot, although Princess Mononoke pushed it near the end.

    I can only think of Ghost in the Shell 1995 movie and the second. Akira as well, but their more sci-fi, philosophical related. Don't think there is any TV show anime with the quality of The Wire or Breaking Bad. The Japanese aren't really like that lol.

    I don't really watch much animes for the same reasons you stated but some of the 90's were a classic. Rurouni kenshin: Trust and Betrayal was very good too. Isn't the topical, cliche anime like its main series.

    Origin spirits of the past is another good anime movie.
    I also really enjoined full metal alchemist conqueror of shamballa, Anything Miyazaki, steamboy, and the first 3 pokemon movies.

    If you're into actual series a few that I like are eureka 7, FLCL, magical shopping arcade abenobashi, Cowboy bebop, Outlaw star, Gurruen Laggan, Evangelion [and neo genesis], Peace Maker, Nabari No Ou, High school of the Dead, Orphan Sorcerer Slayer, The Irresponsible Captain Tylor,Tales of the Abyss, Excell Saga and many many MANY more...

    Oh also if you're into the yaois there's papa to kiss in the dark, Junjou Romantica, Sekerei, sensitive pronograph...

    I watch to much anime...
