Alright so the thing that I don't understand is why people are only building themselves to be anti-magic while completely forgetting about the melee characters...
about 95% of people who use a godstone on their weapon use silence and not blind (not even getting to the fact that 10% blind/silence gs are an horrible idea in my opinion)...

Also almost any good geared healer would use or at least have an MR set, even lots of templars and rangers have an MR set but I seriously haven't seen even one player on this server who uses an evasion/parry set and my question is why...

most melee class atm are stronger in my opinion... since 2.0 sorc was kinda nerfed and since im playing in siel server a good templar is basically almost impossible to kill... and sins and rangers aren't so easy either...

So to sum this all up my question is, why are people gearing themselves mostly against spellcasters while melee classes are a bigger threat?

te silence gs is bcs every class has a skill that they canot use if they are silence for example the gladis and templars cant use heals the sins/rangers cant use buffs

and the blind gs is only for melle clases not useful against sorcerer/sm/cleric/chanter(they can dispell it)

ye this is pretty much the answer that i got from other people when i asked about the gs and while i really do get it i think that silencing a melee class isnt that effective... hell just attack u normally and wait for the 8/10 secs silence to pass which makes it kinda pointless in my opinion...

I'm not saying that I'm disagreeing with the the fact the silence gs is more useful but i dont think it is that much better than blindness that it should be the only gs to appear since it also gives a huge advantage to melee classes...

also tbh the fact that not a single player uses a parry/evasion set is more annoying to me than the gs thing... kinda wish to know if theres an explanation to that...

I was told about half a year ago that evasion was broken on the server and I've yet to see evidence to indicate otherwise. The person who told me this socketed full evasion to test it and did not notice any difference. Any skill that claims to boost evasion never seems to make any difference whatsoever either.

On retail evasion is capped at 30% (or 300 over your opponents accuracy) but on here the stat seems pretty worthless.

I don't know about parry (capped at 40% on retail). Block seems to work okay (capped at 50% on retail).

yeah there is a problem with the evasion when sins use sensory boost+ the dodge chain that increase dodge( i dont remember the name XDD) they still get hit bi gladis templars and chanters

hmm ye kinda thought there was an explanation for this, since it really seemed odd that not a single person would try evading the physical attacks like so many to with resisting magic...

any chance u know if theres also a cap for magic resist? and if there is what it is?
also hope that with the 3.7 they would fix evasion and parry to make it as useful as MR... i know its a longshot but i can always hope :)

If u that concern bout ppl using MR,u could just stack lots of MAcc rite.
I dont know bout parry but i tried using full evasion in my ranger once,i got 3k ++ evasion but when i try duel someone, its just useless.cant dodge that much.

reason y ppl don't stack it is because of your accuracy afterwards if u don't have end tier gear having accu is important. Fighting a sin with 2.2k accuracy is he'll if he has sensory on buy with accu stones u do well. As far as the mr stones ppl use those against god stones also since god stones are still raised(percentage wise) with ma

everyway if u go full parry and a sorcerer comes using tree + delayed+ magma eruption + storm strike u are death and if its a sm say good bay to your buffs + fear this is way ppl go with mr and silence a melle cnat kill u so fast with a good sorcerer/sm u may have not have chance even to use a potion

Firstly it's worth noting that Blind does not equal a guaranteed evasion, it reduces accuracy in damage calculations but a blind player can still hit you though it's far less likely.

With that out of the way Silences, besides effectively countering casters as you've said, tend to chop of the lifelines of melee classes. A lot of powerful buffs, heals, and ranged attacks of melee classes are actually spells and can subsequently be removed out of the equation by silence. In fights with high-end gear where people's DPS is through the roof it's not uncommon for a fight to be over in less than 20 seconds - an 8-10 silence proccing can completely change the outcome of that fight by tearing away your opponents utility.

If you have to choose between the two common sense dictates you use the stone that negatively impacts the most opponents possible. Of course some of us are running around with Stun and Para godstones because we're just cool like that =p

Evasion works well enough, I'll explain it as much as I'm allowed to. We'll assume no one is blind or using any special buffs in this scenario and disregard Parry and Block which happen afterwards anyway. To simplify things:

A player is attacked. The attacker's accuracy is subtracted from the defender's evasion. This number is then altered slightly (as per formulas from retail testing) and compared to the Evasion cap (30%) - the number is reduced if it's over the 30% cap at this point.

Once that's done a RNG roll occurs (300 or less depending on the above) / 1000. If the roll comes out true then the target evades, if it comes out false then they don't and we move onto the Block and Parry calculations.

    Does Evasion work? Yes.

Is it worth socketing... maybe. That would depend on the accuracy of your opponents and what class you're rolling. Is a straight 300 more evasion than the opponent's accuracy going to grant you a maximum evasion chance? No. It's not that simple. I'm not allowed to go into full detail but 300 more evasion than your opponent's accuracy works out to an approximate evasion chance of 20% Give or take.

I'd also like to make a slight point out, most melee classes have to stand next to the player they are DPSing with the one exception rangers, whose arrows you see which angle they are coming from. Sorcs can sit in the middle of no where and get off a big magma eruption and a storm strike (easily 8k damage) before we even know they exist on the field, let alone where.

The typical end tier geared sorc in gamez will have an MR/MACC build around the 1700 MACC / 2100 MR. Those numbers are pretty high by themselves, and if the sorc uses Elemental Ward it will raise the MR to 2400; and using Supplication of Focus and Magic assist you raise your Macc to an astounding number of 2700+.

Most of healers even with their MR set cant withstand that build when the sorc is buffed. And that MR Cleric cant go trough the MR build of the sorc, it has to switch to an MACC set or another build of buffs to counter or run.

And no matter what a melee wears, the sorc with a MR/MACC build in gamez will always hit, as long there are no shields or evasive/resist buffs in play. And if the melee focus too much in resist evade or parry they will lost damage output and they will be forced to go to a defensive play style, that will make the battle far too long in a server that is famous for the zergs. So your objective is to finish the battle as quickly as possible and be on the move as soon as possible as well.

Why dont go with a blind godstone as a caster? Simple: most end tier melees in gamez have high enough accuracy to make that godstone impractical; they will still be hitting you, because the godstone diminish the melee accuracy stat, it dont suppress it. And in the other hand, many of the survival skills of melee, as well as casters are magical dependant. So if you silence them in a good combo the silence will be far too deep in the stocked conditions status and they wont be able to get out of it no matter what, except maybe Clerics if they know what they are doing.

So we could say, what about the damage godstones? Those are great for fast attackers like Assassins and some suspicious glads; more so now that melee have access to those attack speed wings. That is because those godstones have far too low proc chance, for a sorc that can finish an attacker in 4 good hits or less, the proc chance wont happen often. While the silence 10% proc chance makes it possible that in every fight at least 1 time it appears.

At least for me, these are the main reasons of why things are like this now.

hmm while it is true about sorc it can be said about every class out there besides maybe the healer classes... from the obvious eternal hide of a sin and the fairly short hide of ranger that can just suprise butt sex you from the out of nowhere to the pull skill of templar...

Now that thats out of the way my main question is still for Alenete or actually anyone else that can answer me about why MR are so popular since so many people have MR sets.
Is MR also capped like evasion? and if so why do people still insist on stocking themselves with it?
to the people who say "whats the problem just use MA manastones" i have to say that any sorc would be much happier to have only about 1.8k MA and just invest the manastones slots on something else, however when many people choose to use MR sets it weakens the spellcasters while making the melee classes much stronger...

MR is popular because it's an extremely versitile stat.

Besides resisting raw spell damage (Stormstrike ohnoes) and Godstones it also works on quite a few status effects including Fear and silences. It's even useful against some melee debuffs including Ankle Snare which can only be dispeled by a couple skills and is immune to dispel potions -often a death sentence for some characters if it lands on you.

MR and MA do not have caps.

MA isn't such a massive issue for Sorcs as they can always bust out Supplication of Focus to boost their MA by 1,000 to lay out some serious damage over 20 seconds.

well pretty much everything of what you said is true, i'd like to ask your point of view...
however its not true that a sorc will always hit... remember that supplication of focus has only 20 seconds of effect
and i have atm 1.9 macc and still while fighting clerics if i dont finish them in 20 secs all i can do is wait to die since i cant hit them...

the rest of what you said describes the reasoning for situation fairly well but its far from ideal in my opinion...
hope that stuff will change in 3.7 though...

I completely agree with you that MR is an extremely good stat however I think it should be capped, but thats just my opinion...
and while it is true that sorc can bust out sof, which can save their lives like i answered ddraig up there sometimes the 20 secs are not enough, its a fairly short time...
so maybe instead of putting a cap on MR you guys could also remove the cap for evasion? just a suggestion :)
however I did get many answers to my questions so thx for that too :)

I am aware of the duration of the buff, yet as with many things here, there are no absolutes. But is the compromise you make about it; I once tried the full macc and while I could struck anyone by simply pushing buttons, in return it compromised my survivability and that is something you would like to ensure, to some extent, when you are in Star Rank level and beyond, while I would gladly give hard earned points to an skilled player that got the best of me and managed to make a fun and engaging battle, I prefer to run from unfair situations like an angry mob. So the compromise I made back then, was that maybe some enemies will be out of my attack and maybe I would have to let them run after those 20sec or allow myself to run to fight another day. Its like pursuing flexibility over full power or full defence, something among those lines.

This worked for me and my style of play. I dont think everyone goes among those lines, but a lot indeed do.

Now even in retail that build is pretty famous, because is pretty flexible. One of the many reason that I think NCsoft is going to the extent of modifying and expanding the concepts of the manastones for the 3.7, is just to break some of the classical and venerable builds that have been unchanged since a good while. I suppose is like that, may be totally wrong.
