It is a double edge sword. Sure sorcs isn't as gear dependent and can dish out a huge chunk of damage but your one mistake will also lead to your own death. Most beginner sorcs I've seen actually don't know how to combo correctly and do silly things like Inferno into Sleeping target or wasting their blind leap only to get snared the next second. Maybe it is just my prejudice against sorcerers, I hate it in a group situation, mistakes made by sorcs can usually be forgiven and still get a kill.

Very nice run down on how the classes are! Would of been useful when I was searching Earlier. I've played my assassin to about 40 and I could see where needing gear to compensate would be a problem. I think I'll put him on the back burner and level a cleric/chanter so I can glide through dungeons. Might help me with gearing my other classes too >.> . What would you guys recommend? Cleric or Chanter?

set
1 weap w/ fuse
access

this classees are : ranger and spiritmaster.
other classes its either u need a 2nd set of Weapons or set or a back up mace/sword and shield.

imho..

a ranger to be enough, is that u need a good bow and a good access and even the pve set u can still kill thru zerging . :)
an SM is also in that category for you are already squishy and you have the Spirit Sub buff to help you survive but will do alot better in group raids. Plus! you can be vital in dungeon runs and some sort.

also, Ranger can be abit expensive on the manastones but, the basic dps build and manastones that u need for that build is rampant in game so that will not give u a hard time.
the SM has a simple build and MA / MB stones are also alot in game. once you get to a certain MA (magic accuracy) where its enough for it not being resisted.. you will then start to kill easily.

weapon with fuse and access are the key's tho. the Set can come later on these classes.

ps: SMs tho are not an easy class, so it will be frustrating if you dont study them well and learn what skill to use on certain situations.
ranger's tho are just easy.. just know what skill can be casted while running and what skill requires you to stop.

just read their skill descriptions and everything will be fine.

Thank you for your quick elaboration. I'll for sure look into Sm's. I've tried a sorc to 50 and couldn't get into it so that is off the table. Sm's sound like a lot of fun and I'll be trying one out real soon. I'm going to look into the priest class as well. Healing seems interesting.

I'd like to play a very underplayed class. I don't know why, It's just appealing to me. Still really brainstorming over all of the choices I have.

All depends on preference and play style.
Cleric: Primary Support in instances, primary healer, Magical Range damage dealer. Good clerics inter-switch mace/shield with staff.
Supporting with heals/dispells is vital to group survival, especially against big area of effect (AoE) damage from bosses with timed group heals.

Chanter: Secondary Support in instances, backup healer, primary group buffer, Physical melee damage dealer. Mostly uses staff in combat.
Often described as Jack-of-all trades, might get asked to do DPS, might need to heal the cleric/tank, situational based.

The chanter sounds exactly like what I'm searching for. I try not to pigeon hole myself when I play so the chanter might be a good option for me. Do you know anything about chanters? How are they End-game and how high in demand are they?

If it's hard for you to play sorc, better don't play as SM. Play ranger

I'm not expert with Chanters since I learnt Aion from playing Cleric. However I have played and tried the class numerous times.
The demand for chanters isn't as high as clerics to do instances, though it is not like they're unwanted either (unlike poor gladiators).

End-game wise, I'd describe them as sub-gladiators in damage dealing and sub-clerics in supporting. They can survive as long as clerics and has the tools and damage to kill most classes.
They have a buff (Unstoppable) which allows their stun and knockdown chance increased (very powerful against warrior's Unwavering Devotion),
2 Major buff (Blessing of Wind and Lucidity) which increases their damage without any major drawback (unlike gladiator's Berserking),
Chanters also have very nice survival skills, 2 shield-like skill (Protection Ward and Divine Curtain?) that reduces damage taken by 50% for limited duration (like a mini-Iron Skin, Templar skill).
2 Remove Shocks (Remove Shock and Rise), which is vital skill to survive against stun-lock and chanters gets 2 meaning they're hard to lock down.
Also I love their short cooldown Heal (Recovery Spell), I rate it as one of the best support skills (Cleanse is the best though) because the total amount of recovery is about 3728 for only 1 second cast time.

Wow, thank you for your extremely informative and detailed reply. From what I've read online and from the people here, it sounds like the class I could play for my stay here at Gamez. The support role they can fill really draws me in and the fact that then can deal enough damage to hold their own only makes the deal that much sweeter. The mantras sound extraordinarily useful in certain situations. The staff use is really awesome as well plus the chain armor is hard on the eyes either.

IMO, the best way to get a glimpse at how the class does in end-game is watch lv60 pvp videos of players fighting.

^Example of an experienced chanter player on retail.
He uses full Magic Resist (MR) armour build and is decently gear (EAC armour during that video). He sometimes switches to Crit/Magic Accuracy armours.
