3D printed food? WTF NASA xD

So apparently a 3D printed gun "The Liberator" (that actually works) which is now open for download for anybody with a 3D printer wasn't enough and now NASA is funding a 3D printer for food xd

Are we going to eat paper? Because I can put stuff on paper now and eat it if I wanted to o.o?

Don't get confused by the term "printer" xd 3D printers don't use paper, they basically take a software image and "print" it using different materials (like plastics etc) layer by layer, stacking it to form the shape

Here they wanna take the basic building blocks of food (imagine dried and powdered stuff) and use that to print food layer by layer

You can find 3D printing videos all over youtube to get an idea what it's like xD

 

So...its like going to make a sandwich?

I actually never knew there was a 3d printer untill i saw that episode of Big Bang Theory, now what makes me curious is how are they gonna add flavour to it, and how unhealthy will it be.

You can, there are design softwares for 3d printers, all you have to do is split it up into separate parts you will combine at the end (limited size that can be printed)
