Uhm, some things, since I got mixed feelings on this topic tbh.

Did you know that the vote system checks account name, IP, AND MAC Address when you vote? This should, in theory, make it impossible for people to multivote. I don't understand how people can multivote. Even worse than that is I don't see how people can mistakenly get banned for multivoting, which probably has lower chances of happening than actual attempts at multivoting.

So on one side, we got a seemingly hard system to fool, and on the other side we got a bunch of people claiming they got banned on accident for abusing the foolproof system. It sounds both as BS from the people getting banned (a.k.a. they WERE multivoting) or BS from the system (a.k.a. the autoban system/admin ban formula for multivoters, is flawed).

Now another thing is when I was a GM, I WOULD get people who had just gotten banned for multivoting, come online on alts and eventually confess to multivoting while asking for a second chance and "crying now, sir". This obviously means multivoters ARE getting banned, no doubt. But it does not mean people have not been mistakenly banned.

Regarding the actual Multivoting bans, they are the one of very few type of bans not requiring proof be presented (other type of bans including obvious impersonators a.k.a. "ampuddles" account/char name, or known scammers doing mass accounts with basically same name. one proof fits all), and they are handled by "the system" or the admins (I'm pretty sure no one other than the green names know how that system works tbh). Whenever a GM finds someone multivoting and bans them, it's because they admitted doing so and proof is available. GM's don't ban without proof, and if they for some reason do so, the ban gets reviewed by high ranking staff members, and more often than not ends up getting reversed (unless it has obvious reasons to stand, like in the scenarios I mentioned before).

But really now, mutlivoting bans SHOULD get some sort of evidence & appeal option, like any other ban does. I can't see how bad it would be to list, say, a small excerpt from the website logs showing the info used to come up to the conclusion that the person was multivoting, thus providing the ability to try and appeal the ban. If mistakes can happen when normal bans are issued, I don't see how mistakes are not made when multivote bans are issued. Regardless of who or what issues the ban, mistakes do happen, and without the ability to appeal or say something about the ban, mistakes can easily go unnoticed and innocents could be getting banned. That's just something that can't be denied, because it's a possibility, and we aren't getting any evidence to get us to believe otherwise.

Sir! It was my dog! I knew i shouldn't have teached him how to vote! OMG =( Give me another chance!

@Jose. They can send a PM to Alente / Carl and if they can really prove that they did not 'multi-vote', and it was all a big mistake, then their ban shall be lifted.

Goodness me this is a big thread.

Yes you'd be correct in saying we've recently issued a wave of bans for multivoting, to address some of the points raised though.

Players in net cafes voting on multiple machines - this is, in theory, not possible as all machines in the cafe would share the same external IP address. Having said that some cafe members, and players ingeneral, have been known to bypass our IP restrictions using proxies to vote on multiple accounts. We have methods for checking that and accounts found doing so have been banned accordingly. We've also updated detection significantly ahead of 4.0 to stop cheaters gaining an unfair advantage in credits.

Browser data clearing - Some people have been able to bypass the vote restrictions by clearing their browser data, we have addressed this vulnerability and retroactively banned those found using it.

Wai no banlog/proof!?! - Multivote bans such as these are issued by Admins (myself and Carl), we are the only people who are not required to use GABS to issue bans. Documenting each multivote ban manually when we're banning thousands upon thousands of accounts at once would take a ridiculous amount of time.

I kind of like the Spartans way of natural selection.

Also still selling those enlightenment lessons or whatever.

I'm actually serious about this enlightenment thing if you do send money to my Paypal address then I WILL teach you.

It will just take a long time so you'll have to order a half hour time slot, hours are preferred though.

    Serious offer

Would be more profitable to write a book with your enlightenment than to offer it like this.

I think it is not fair that you get banned because your just playing in the Cafe and you just voted with one account even you did not multivote. If this is the case then its time to say goodbye.

Did you not read my post? On second thought I might as well just close this since no one intends to read the answer to their questions.

We've also updated detection significantly ahead of 4.0 to stop cheaters gaining an unfair advantage in credits. Playing at a net cafe doesn't mean you'll be banned but if people there are trying to abuse the vote system on the same machine you use then you may have some trouble.
