No, it's terrible. It's designed for touch screen tablets and laptops, not gaming. 7 is still far superior for gaming.

It's pretty much exactly the same as Windows 7 except with an added (meaning you don't even have to use it) touchscreen interface and a few different menus. It is a bit different in that in 8 it doesn't have a start menu, but you can download one.. In 8.1 it will also have the option to go directly to the desktop instead of you having to click on "Desktop" on the touchscreen interface.

I mean really does it really look that different o.o

Either way, you're pretty much getting the same thing. So I guess you can just keep Windows 7 if you don't want to upgrade and learn the new interface. Neither is really superior to the other from a gaming perspective.

Try OEM versions of win 7 that you can buy online. Usually they say they got them from machines that are not sold with working windows installed, so they get the keys and can sell them as new OEM versions, way more cheaper. Either its true or not the sell is legit and the key works and you can do updates as normally, but no support, no case or disc... full download.

I got the Ultimate 64b for my machine doing that, no complains.

    One caveat:

SSD management in Windows 8 is far more streamlined compared to Win 7. And with Windows 8.1 released the interface is quite similar to windows 7.

I have each OS installed on two different computers.

I'm using windows 8.1 and it works pretty well to me and I came from windows 7 ultimate. I bypass the metro start screen and mainly use the desktop like in windows 7 but being able to hit start and just start typing to search for anything is very handy. it's also nice in 8.1 when you start a program or game and it's missing something like vc++ for example and it pops up and lets you know and gives you the option to download and install it, simple.

Speaking from experience.. you'll get a little better performance in some games using windows 8 over windows 7. :p Just a few FPS not much.

Win 7 Home/ Professional/Ultimate are the same except those additional accessories. I had all of those OS from XP o Win 8. I can say Win8 have some incompatibility issues but it has been addressed through win updates one by one. playing aion in WIN8 has no problem at all. it runs well ofc it always depends on the specs of ur PC/Notebook. I am used to borrow the laptop of my friend using win8 corei7 8G ram with NVIDIA GT 740m 2GVram. graphics are max and it runs so smooth.

i run my game lately in win 8 OS the best thing is that YOUR OS WILL FIND WAYS... ITS LIKE A MACHINE THAT IT AUTOMATICALLY SEARCH FOR BEST (netframework/directx) for that specific application in order to run smoothly ...BUT it really works more on tablets than on PC... i would strongly suggest to go for win 7 OS *home/prof ^^
