About the whole donate-or-not-donate-or-refund thing, the only opinion I have about it is that Carl could have avoided that mess had he managed to find the balance of giving access to the devs who were here AND at the same time keeping the server secure. I'll grant him that such a thing ain't easy, and the resulting community action was extreme, but that's where it got him and the paypal account with irate players. C'est la vie.

If his issue is about trusting who to give server access to, then he's all on his own on that one. Can't really blame the guy as this IS the internet after all. Be all you can be (or pretend to be)! If I were in his shoes, I'd be cautious as well to a certain degree. But the whole protecting-server-integrity bit has gotten us nowhere so far (in terms of dev work) and like I said on my other posts, hell, we needed devs ages ago. He needs outside help whether he admits to it or not.

Better screening/training methods or some form of restricted/safe access for new devs COULD be his solution to all this.

 

He wouldnt need to give an access to a dev if he was on more and did something for a server.

Just suggestion: Why not to remake Crystal in full test server and changing a bit config on it and mainly giving access to dev on it? If it was marked as beta server ppl couldnt complain about bad patches whatever and if some dev go mad and erase the whole DB? Who cares its beta server, I think that would be a really good idea.

IMHO Everyone who have written to this topic with atleast a little critisms cares much more about the server, than the rest which is either quiet or saying something like: Give it a time, it will be solved, We cant critise Carl, its bringing bad light to server or crap like this.

 

What "people don't need" is a server that's not fun. If it takes a sh*tload of drama to make Carl DO something about this issue, I mean all THESE issues, then I'm in.

I know you're going to ask why am I still here or why are these people still here and the answer is I guess, somehow, we have found a sense of belonging here. Call it a home or call it whatever you want but one of the biggest reasons why I'm still here is because I'm hoping that this server would make up to really deserve it's number 1 spot. Don't you? Don't tell me you're already satisfied with the way things are going?

A lot of suggestions have been thrown to Carl and I could imagine how many have sent private messages to him, however, i can't see any PROGRESS. It's as if gamez is stuck in a moment.

And I haven't said that your forum suggestions are bad or anything <_< .Anyway ,to much off-topic now .

 

I for one would definitely care and I believe the players on Crystal would also care. How would you like for someone to come along and erase your characters that you've spent months getting to where you want them? I've been there and it's not a good feeling to see all your hard work go right down the drain.

 

Well then how would there be any progress if the only person which has acces can't seem to fix anything?

 

Love the community, love the game, hate what's happening right now.

I've invested time and effort in to THIS server, and I simply don't want to change to another one. I want to stay right here.

But I feel myself loosing interest more and more. I would be happy if the server moved forward. I would even be pretty happy if it just stayed right were it is. I don't care about the crashes at all. But no going backwards and NO destroying stuff that already works.

If it works, don't fix it.

But plz, if ppl are not actually insulting someone, and they want to talk thru something, be that good or bad stuff about the server, just let them. I am not the judge and juror, and I don't get to say: I don't LIKE these topics, so they're gone. Every time I see a topic closed (and I see a lot of them, honestly), I'm thinking...what else did I miss that's important? I want to know about things BEFORE I invest in them.

And about Carl...bosses are usually not very liked...anywhere. Just the way life is.:whistling:

 

Thats true, but do you want a crappy server with your beloved char, or bugless server with new character? Thats up to you, my point is however a bit different, I feel like there should be some test server, but rather then only for devoted testers it should be opened for public, so maybe 3rd server, which would be marked as beta. Its because its much easier for developers if they can apply patch and let others test it so he gets more time to actually fix something instead of testing everything.
The best thing would for GameZ would be if Carl get involved in development, he doesnt have to make any updates, just to cooperate with devs and help them as much as he can do, but as we all know it wont happen and with sitution of AL, where progress seems to stop, the future doesnt look good.

 

Ok simple solution then, get another server up, (doesnt have to accept incoming gamers) give dev's access to it to sort out problems, we know they are there, they will know they are there. take a copy of the gamezaion server as it is now and set it up on that one.

When a Dev fixes it, make the server live for a week where it accepts gamers, so they can test it, if all goes well, close it again and upload the new fix to gamezaion.

This way Devs dont have access to games aion but DO have access to the same server files for fixing.

Surly this is the best solution to the problem. everyone wins, and if that DB gets wiped, its already backed up as its the same files as gamez already.

Obviously with different log in pass words and such.

and for the sollution you give here, if i work for Carl i work for him. not for anyone else so if this is YOUR plan you need to hire your own devs.

 

surprisingly, your opinion is that of many devs, I've known some people who were ridiculously good and had lots of experience. but they refused to work in this situation. I truly think chlora was one of a kind, zero just left because he didn't want to do it anymore. but yeah, I hope this is enough proof for all of you that stuff needs to change for progress
