So whats with the eternal hatred between the races of Aion, Asmos and Elyos?
Why so much QQing and racism? Who the battles and raids?
I tried making some research trying to explain to myself about wth is happenign in this game's scenario.

    [wall of txt incommin]

Ok so basecally in a few words the story goes like this:
In the beggining there was a happy world called Atreia. Aion was the God who created the Humans and the Balaur to protect them. The Balaur where hungry for power so they turned against humans.
Now the Balaur had the five Dragon Lords who asked for more power and Aion refised, so an epic war started.
Aion in order to defend the humans created the twelve Empyrean Lords, beings of divinity and power to protect the Tower of Eternity.
Then at some point an attempt at peace with the Balaur was made.
But just before the peace-talks could begin, one of the Dragon Lords was slain by an unknown assailant.
So a shitstorm came that we call it Epic Cataclysm and it was the end of what the world Atreia was until then.
The Tower of Eternity was destroyed.
After that the Empyrean Lords were split in half.
Those who wanted war for revenge were called Shedim Lords and they are the Asmos.
Those who wanted pease on the other side were called Seraphim Lords and they are the Elyos.

    plot as posted in wiki

In the beginning, Aion benevolently watched over his world Atreia. He created the humans, and the Balaur to safeguard and watch over them. Eventually, the Balaur became obsessed with power and subjugation. Five of the Balaur rose to a height of strength above the rest, and became known as the five Dragon Lords. When Aion refused to grant them the power they desired, the power to rival his own, they revolted and declared war on the god that created them. Aion's hand was forced, and he created the twelve Empyrean Lords, beings of divinity and power to protect the Tower of Eternity.
Some humans "ascended" to become Daeva and, like the Empyrean Lords, had wings and the ability to fight the Balaur. With time, enough Daevas rose to form an army. The Empyrean Lords would lead the Daeva into battle and fight ceaselessly. Eventually an attempt at peace with the Balaur was made. The five Dragon Lords were invited inside the barrier for peace talks, but before the peace-talks could begin, one of the Dragon Lords was slain by an unknown assailant. In the fighting that followed, the Tower of Eternity was destroyed, resulting in the cataclysm that broke Atreia in half. Those Empyrean Lords who opposed peace came to power in the dark part of the world, and became known as the Shedim Lords. Those who had desired peace became the Seraphim Lords and ruled over the lower half of Atreia.
Those that lived in the light part of the world, the Elyos, saw little change. These followers of the Seraphim Lords created the city of Sanctum. The inhabitants of the upper part, the Asmodians, saw many changes. Their hands became claw-like, their feet became talons. The darkness made their complexion deepen, and their eyes grew red adapting to the absence of light. They live in the city of Pandaemonium under the rule of the Shedim Lords.
Players begin the game as human inhabitants of their chosen world (Elysea or Asmodae) who are basic mercenaries/raiders, given small tasks to accomplish. Through completing these tasks increasing in magnitude, preventing the Balaur from being summoned to the beginning zone, they "ascend" as winged, immortal Daevas. Characters then travel their respective capital cities to begin their new lives as holy servants of their respective people. The story and tone of the game differ between the worlds, as do the landscapes and characters one encounters; however the basic linear progression is the same.

Sooo... basically asmos and elyos were both humans created by the same God.
So the point is that they are actually both enemies of the Balaur but they argue for wether or not to fight them, and that relusted to...... killing each other. (yay for NCSoft scenario makers~ *rolleyes*).
While playing the game you will notice some differences on what propaganda does each race use. For example most Elyos quests give more points on how bad enemies teh Balaur are to them, on the other hand Asmos quests give more effords to show how much they hate Elyos rather than Balaur (i know right..).

    So there you have it.
2 races fighting each other for actually no special reason.
its like having 2 countries killing each other for weather or not to make piece with a greater enemy to both of them.

However as we all know the game system is not like what things can be irl.
Irl 2 countries that would act like that, they would be istantly defeated by their common enemy. In our case we just have a nice PvP system and we have fun.....

Now a few details about each race.
Elyos live on the side where they have sun while Asmos are living in darknes.
Except their differences in the name and small details on looks (like teh claws) they are the same (skills, quest system, items etc.).

So basically there is not a good or a bad race, and there is no weak or strong race.
Now... a nice research i did about their names (an interesting part).
Asmodians from Asmondea took their names after Asmodeus (or Asmodai). Asmodeus is a king of demons mostly known from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit (also mentioned in some Talmudic legends) , Asmodeus is also likely originated from the Persian Aeshma-deva ("demon of wrath").

sources: deliriumsrealm demonology files and wikipedia:

Asmodeus or Asmodai (Hebrew: אשמדאי‎ Ashmedai) (see below for other variations) is a king of demons mostly known from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit.[1] The demon is also mentioned in some Talmudic legends, for instance, in the story of the construction of the Temple of Solomon. He was supposed by some RenaissanceChristians to be the King of the Nine Hells. Asmodeus also is referred to as one of the seven princes of hell. In Binsfeld's classification of demons, each one of these princes represents one of the seven deadly sins (Pride, Lust, Envy, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and Wrath). Asmodeus is the demon of lust and is therefore responsible for twisting people's sexual desires. It is said that people who fall to Asmodeus' ways will be sentenced to an eternity in the second level of hell.

    Etymology
The name Asmodai is believed to derive from Avestan language *aēšma-daēva, where aēšma means "wrath", and daēva signifies "demon". While the daēva Aēšma is thus Zoroastrianism's demon of wrath and is also well attested as such, the compound aēšma-daēva is not attested in scripture. It is nonetheless likely that such a form did exist, and that the Book of Tobit's "Asmodaios" (Ἀσμοδαῖος) and the Talmud's "Ashmedai" (אשמדאי) reflect it.[2]
Other spelling variations include Asmodaeus (Latin), Asmodaios-Ασμοδαίος (Greek), Ashmadia, Asmoday, Asmodée (French), Asmodee, Asmodei, Ashmodei, Ashmodai, Asmodeios, Asmodeo (Spanish and Italian), Asmodeu (Portuguese), Asmodeius, Asmodi, Chammaday, Chashmodai, Sidonay, Sydonai, Asimodai (Romanian), Asmodevs (Armenian).[citation needed] The playwright William Shakespeare abbreviated his name to Modo.[3]
Although there are also functional parallels between Zoroastrianism's Aēšma and Judaism's Asmodai/Asmodeus, the linguistic relationship does not denote conceptual continuity. The two are mythologically and culturally distinct.[4]

    the story about Asmodeus..

The apocryphal Book of Tobit describes an instance where Raguel's daughter, Sarah, was tormented by the demon. She was married to seven times, each time the Asmodeus killed off the husband before they could have intercourse. Sarah, was about to hang herself in grief, but decided against it after thinking about the shame it would cause her father. She then prayed to God for death.

God answered her prayer by sending the angel, Raphael, to her aid. He instructed Tobiah to place fish liver and heart on the embers for incense. Asmodeus was repelled by the odor:
"The demon, repelled by the odor of the fish, fled into Upper Egypt; Raphael pursued him there and bound him hand and foot." - Book of Tobit 8:3
In the Testament of Solomon (dated 1st - 3rd centuries CE) , Solomon invokes Asmodeus to aid in the construction of the Temple. The demon appears and predicts Solomon's kingdom will one day be divided.
"My constellation (is like an animal which) reclines in its den in heaven; some men call me the Great Bear, but others the Offspring of a Dragon. Moreover, a smaller constellation accompanies my constellation, for the high position and throne of my father is always in the sky. So do not ask me so many things, Solomon, for eventually your kingdom will be divided. This glory of yours is temporary. You have us to torture for a little while; then we shall disperse among human beings again with the result that we shall be worshiped as gods because men do not know the names of the angels who rule over us." - Testament of Solomon 5:4-5
After Asmodeus had spoken, Solomon ordered him to state his name and activities, to which the demon responded that he:
"Is always hatching plots against newlyweds; I mar the beauty of virgins and cause their hearts to grow cold"
    - Testament of Solomon 5:7
When Solomon interrogated Asmodeus further, he learned that Asmodeus was thwarted by the angel, Raphael, as well as sheatfish found in the rivers of Assyria. He also admitted he hated water.

    Milton writes in Paradise Lost
    Better pleased
Than Asmodeus with the fishy fume
That drove him, though enamoured, from the spouse
Of Tobit's son, and with a vengeance sent
From Media post to Egypt, there fast bound.
    - Paradise Lost , iv. 167--71.
The Elyos from Elysea took their names after Elysium. Elysium (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Ἠλύσιον Elysion) (also called The Elysian Fields, or the Elysian Plains ) was a section of the Underworld from the Greek Mythology.

    source: wiki

In Greek mythology, Elysium (Greek: Ἠλύσια πεδία) was a section of the Underworld (the spelling Elysium is a Latinization of the Greek word Ἠλύσιον Elysion). The Elysian Fields, or the Elysian Plains, were the final resting places of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous.

    Etymology
Elysium is an obscure name that evolved from a designation of a place or person struck by lightning, enelysion, enelysios.[1] This could be a reference to Zeus, the god of lightning/Jupiter, so "lightning-struck" could be saying that the person was blessed (struck) by Zeus (/lightning/fortune). Egyptologist Jan Assmann has also suggested that Greek Elysion may have instead been derived from the Egyptian term ialu (older iaru), meaning "reeds," with specific reference to the "Reed fields" (Egyptian: sekhet iaru / ialu), a paradisaical land of plenty where the dead hoped to spend eternity.[2]

PS: there's also a place in Athens called Elysium...

Most of the names in Aion are taken from the Hebrew language , Asmodai as you mentioned, the Drakon, shedim lords, seraphim lords, israphel (reminds of Israel, where ppl speak hebrew) and many more
anyways this is a fun game and a war is never justified :)

I read it. Really nice job! I just never stopped and thought about the story much. I know of it by doing camapign quests.

But since a lot of them are bugged and others I can't do because of asmo camping the quest givers all the time, I stopped caring about the story.

    So good work I say!

Aion's lore is pretty interesting. I've done all campaign quests on retail and I must say that the story and the way player is driven through the quests is worth spending houndreds of hours ingame.

Afaik on gamez most of campaign quests don't work. Sad because I'd like to see asmo version of the story.

Yeah, indeed the campaign quest lines are so interesting but too bad so many of them are bugged in this server...
Atm im looking into Asmos campaign quest lines with my noob asmo char.
But so far there's no Race better than the other. They both show the same human faulty choices and mistakes as far as the fact that they dont rly know wth is goin on after the Epic Cataclysm and what's the truth. It's just that they call themselves angels and daemons for power show off and nothing more.
I believe that NCSoft's Aion scenario writers have a long and big way to still go through to continue the scenario.

thank you for reading it guys, and please add any decent opinions about it.
and pls no BS like Elyos>Asmos or Asmos>Elyos.

You know...the only reason NCsoft made elyos and asmodians enemies is just for pvp.(or a reason to get pked lol)
I saw in one of the campaign quests cutscene that elyos thought that asmodians will invade their land...or sort of...
so that resulted to a war lol.
And seriously why not make the balaur a playable race >.>.

I dont see why they wouldnt make balaur a playable race in the future. We have seen races being added in other sorts of MMORPGs. Maybe we have lots to see yet (Aion is still a new game after all..)

before i played aion. i got hooked with the graphics, then i read Aion Lore on the NA website powerwiki. Got hooked so much and watched videos while waiting for the download.

Everybody wants to Play NPC LOL. I would like SHUGOS to be a playeable race, AKAKAKAKAK NYER NYERK!

Yeah Aion will still be a good game, many haters dont see that, all they want is to show off. But hell thats why most people play, to show that their a TRUE MAN enough staying at home facing the computer...
