I've been having this issue for a few days now.
Yes I have my antivirus, windows defender and firewall exclusions set.
Is there any fix at all to this? I'm so close to just giving up, I want to enjoy this game.

(edit) it is now stuck saying updating patch files

By "Client 0", it's not recognizing/seeing retail bdo in your system. Do you have na/eu retail bdo client? If you're trying to run on another version, kr for example, it will not work.

Sorry, in addition to changing to "Updating patch files" it now says Gamez 855 Client 855. So it must be seeing bdo in my system.

The fix for updating patch files is normally setting the exclusions, as you mentioned above that you have done. What is the antivirus you are using? I ask this because some of them tend to block gamezbd no matter what. These include, but are not limited to, avast, avira, norton, malwarebytes, and a few others.
