I was unfortunate enough to come upon an incredible happening on our GamezBD EU-server, there was a player named: RappingN*word

This player was a member of a Guild on the EU-server and after reporting this player I felt as if this entire community was a bunch of mindless racist ¤%&/#¤"/#¤&"%#!%"!!&("¤# to which I know there are server rules in place to combat this sort of phenomenon, however my question to this community is simply:

DOES THE GUILD TO WHICH HE BELONGED SUFFER DUE TO ACCEPTING THIS PLAYER NAME?

In my opinion guilds should take FULL responsibilty of their members actions/names/mistakes and failure to report and/or comply to the server rules of this community GamezBD should immediately result in the guild being dissolved and the guild leader put on a temporary ban. The problem arose from the aforementioned player using the Server-channel buff where EVERYONE on the channel could see the playername (and guild affiliation) as well as the fact that NO-ONE had yet reported that player for extreme violation of the server rules making it seem to any and all players on GamezBD that this was a completely normal event and something that on-one cared about at all, I know that it made some players immediately quit GamezBD calling it a Racist Private server with KKK affiliations.

So in your opinion how far does the server-rules enforcing go and how far SHOULD it go when the server rules are OBVIOUSLY being broken?

Racism is never tolerated here. It needs to be properly reported directly to any staff member via pm or in player reports, with proper screenshot proof (full screen screenshots, etc.)

I know this ("...and after reporting this player...") however this post is about the direct lack of reporting this violation of the server rules from specifically the Guild Leader and the rest of the Guild -for that matter- to which that player belonged, this is the real question here:
How far can this Guild be held responsible and is it not in itself a violation to NOT report such a blantantly horrible server rule breaking?

It's not the guild's responsibility to report inappropriate names of their players. You can't point an accusing finger at other players who are in the same guild just because they have not reported an inappropriate name. There are people who choose to ignore the fact that people use racist names, and there are people who just play to forget the problems they have.
If you don't feel comfortable seeing names based on racism, don't think twice and report them as you have done so far. Don't hope that other people will report what is bothering you personally because I can tell you that this is not something that usually happens.

I stopped playing GameZ when I wanted to report a player for racism, xenophobia and homophobia, and all I got from staffers was "did you blocked him?"
    Gross.

I do get that it may be quite difficult to address situations like these because there will usually always be a counter argument that makes sense and can therefore negate the reason for including an offense added to guilds who are actively trolling or using this community/server for racism/homophobia/sexism and other such hate crimes, now the reason I used the phrase "hate-crimes" is that in many countries it is in fact illegal to do so in a "public" place...unfortunately I already know the counter argument which is overused on the internet: Free Speech. The main reason that it is used so often is that it has become nearly impossible to track down said criminals to fine/punish them nowadays with all the things that make the internet such a wonderfully "free" place to roam, also that this is merely a game server will also make said function impossible simply because as soon as you catch one and ban the player they can always add a VPN and make a new account where they can continue doing what they were doing that got them banned in the first place. I know that with limited resources and staff it makes this a logistical nighmare and it will therefore Always be up to the others players to report such incidents, but eventually -as I am trying to state with this discussion- people just give up on it because it just keeps happening to which many unhappy players can testify.

The server rules state that no player shall interfere with another player's enjoyment of the game (paraphrased) which includes such offenses previously mentioned and I know that I am not Don Quijote here trying to battle the windmills of bad behavior on this community/server, but it does stand to reason that if you are the guild leader of a guild which lets this slide and simply fail to report such behavior you are in fact only adding to the problem with other players leaving this otherwise lovely server/community because they then also become implicated in the server rules violation. It would be like people walking on the street and witnessing a terribly violent crime WITHOUT taking out their phone and filming it or at the very least calling the police.

I am not saying that EVERYthing that a player does while within a guild is subject to applying to the guild, but this is clearly not something that someone could miss especially because it was broadcast on the entire channel through the "goldenbells-buff" (not sure what it is called), and I have no idea of whether this was intended specifically to troll this server/community or if it was part of the guild's ideology; to spread hatred and harm.

So in order to find out how the entire community feels about this sort of behavior going unchecked -within guilds specifically- I made this post and just wanted some feedback on why this is not a good thing to do, the problem however is that while I was typing this I did realize that it is perfectly possible to change a player's name through the "name change coupon" available in the Pearlstore so it will be impossible to do anything about this or enforce it since any troll could then join a guild with a non-offensive name only to change it to something horrible once part of the guild :(

I fully understand your reaction @Lnhzz and it took me an entire day to calm down after seeing that horrible event happening on this server/community, I was truly offended that it was even possible.
Why is there is no in-built filter to make such names impossible to have on our server/community?

I personally always disable the serverchat simply because I lose the enjoyment of the game if I take a look at it for too long, people are just SO used to others behaving like spoiled-selfcentered-babies who are able to behave however they want to without any repercussions/consequences. I do not want to keep playing on a server/community that do nothing to make it a friendly and non-offensive place to enjoy a game, HOWEVER I know that it is a matter of opinion what is actually offensive or not, while there are some things that most -if not all- can agree on, such as sexism/homophobia/racism that should really no longer be something to make fun of or draw out to cause harm to others. Luckily this server/community has a Zero Tolerance policy towards such behavior and that is why I am quick to defend the staff and project in general, but it is also as I described above Extremely difficult to keep in check since the staff cannot afford to have a moderator on each channel online 24/7 to immediately step in and deal with such players and it is therefore up to the other players to take action and report such behavior, making this thread rather meaningless because it is again not up to the staff to deal with this unless it is reported; YES I did read what the answer you were given was and I DO find it an incredibly horrible answer, but as far as I know it has gotten better since then, but I really have no idea of when you recieved this answer and would not want to shame a staffmember if they still work here (I hope they know it was wrong), because it is indeed these types of problems that make this server lose the players that REALLY matter.
People who come here to get away from all the horrible behavior and toxicity going on in other places and to have a great gaming experience without having to be exposed to such harm, but instead of attracting and most importantly keeping these people; who will abide by the server rules and use the reports system wisely as well as frequently. Unfortunately they are being run off by individuals intent on bringing this community down to the lowest common denominator and form of abuse, which is why I again stand in an ocean of indifference and ignorance to make my mad case for a different and respectable community (I know I am part of a minority).

So once again I know that this will likely lead nowhere since the premise stands on shaky ground and the fact that anyone could abuse the penalty of guilds because of a single player makes it pretty much useless other than to vent my rantings at a deaf audience.

Sorry I really thought I was onto something useful there for a moment, a way to cut down on player's who just stand by and do nothing about abusive and intolerant behavior on our server/community.

I understand the cause of the frustration. In fact, the whole issue of inappropriate names bothers me personally not only because it violates the server rules, but also because some names can directly hurt and affect people and that is something I personally can't accept, and I can tell you that we try to eradicate the problem in several ways. With all due respect, we are not in a regime where people don't have the freedom to express themselves. On the contrary, we allow players way too much freedom, especially when it comes to character names and that's why we don't take actions toward any name that might seem a bit out of place (the following are not included in the freedom mentioned: racism, homophobia, sexism).
I'm fully aware that once a player is permanently banned due to excessive racism, he can create a new account and continue to do what caused its suspension in the first place. Now, IP suspension is not the only way to prevent players from accessing the server. As a matter of fact, banning their IP wouldn't be wise since not everyone has a static IP. There are other ways such as blocking MAC/HWID and so on, and believe me they work like a charm. I will not go into details because it's not necessary, but we have a list of online players and we can see which name should be blacklisted. Not everything depends on the players' reports, although each report is appreciated.
Touche. As for the guild, I will stick to what I said earlier, it's not the guild's responsibility. In fact, they have nothing to do with the names their players have chosen. You can't blame the entire guild because they haven't reported an inappropriate name. The comparison between the fact that people prefer to turn a blind eye to an inappropriate name in the game and the fact that people are witnessing in the street and ignoring violent crimes is two very different things, and I don't see how it can be compared to the existing situation.
Basically this is what we do when a player is banned due to inappropriate name. The player is permanently banned until he or she contacts the staff member who issued the ban and promises to change the name. If after a few minutes the name is not changed as promised, the player loses the right to the account, and in some cases the account is even deleted.

I think you should grow a spine and learn how to deal with things you don't like without resorting to trying to get others to solve problems for you. Learn to deal with it. Life isn't always about strawberries and sunshine and sometimes things are going to make you upset. That's just how it is.

Hello @Proto, I am just wondering if you know the modern definition of an "internet-troll"?

Personally i think that the "guild responsibility" is a community matter not an admin/rules responsibility. From my point of view it should work like this: a decent guild should condemn character naming in violation of server rules. The guild should request the player to change his character name as a requirement to join. The player breaking rules and/or offending others, guilds and others who ignore this kind of actions should be condemned by the rest of the server community. That's how social norms work. But there are people who just want to play the game, there are people who do this kind of thing as a joke (stupid joke of course) or from ignorance.
Did you talk to that player? Did you express your feelings about his character naming choice (to see if this is a missed joke, ignorance or something like that)? Did you remind him (or instructed him if he didn't read the rules) that this is a violation? Finally did you ask him to change his character name?
Reporting this is your right and a duty of sorts so thank you for voicing your opinion.
But wouldn't the server community be enriched if you two at least tried to talk it out?
I believe that no matter what the outcome of the talk would have been you wouldn't feel as bad as you did.
Lastly I'm sure it would help the admins and GM's immensely if they didn't have to take responsibility for deciding who's "good" and who's "bad" - because that's not the issue here - it's about being considerate, understanding and simply polite so that the game would be even better for all of us.

I don't think guilds should be taken responsibility of one player action.

For example there is quite some guilds in the EU server who has people with very questionable names. Some of those names are not in direct violation of the naming policy, but stand with very - very thin line with their names, by being kinda racist and vulgar (same time where is the line I wonder myself sometimes ... ). Yet even if someone might be violated, because of one stupid person, it does mean that whole guild should be punished, because that guild hosts most cases people who in obviously has named his/her character correct way. Does this person needs to be punished by the action of one ? No. He joined that guild to be part of the guild and what the guild views are.

Of course if the guild openly endorses in public for example racism or hatred and that endorsement goes so far that entire guild endorses it from guild master, to officers to regular members - then in rare cases this entire guild should be reported and I'm sure it will be dealt with (punishing those involved and even removing guild totally).

But remember if one guild sole purpose is to go against other guild if does not mean they endorse hatred, they just verse opposite guild and could be with the culture in the same side as the first guild was, they just have different name (examples: Guild Red - Guild Blue / Guild Light - Guild Dark), sometimes using word "anti" like (Guild: Venom vs Antivenom) works too.
