[Guide]Lower ping without software!

Hello folks,

Having a high ping is really FTL, so here is a guide to reduce it without the use of extra software. Works with every windows OS.

Please note that these fixes could reduce your P2P download speed. If that bothers you, change the values to 2.

Also, I suggest you do not do this if you already use Leatrix.


Windows XP

1. Go Start -> Run -> Type "regedit" and press OK. This should bring up Register-Editor.

2. Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

3. Browse all the items under Interfaces. The one you need will have a lot of settings inside, one of these settings is named IP address OR DhcpIPAddress, the data of one of these always starts with 192.168 or 10.0.

4. Right-click inside the interface and add a new DWORD. Name it "TcpAckFrequency".

5. Right-click on the "TcpAckFrequency" you just created, press "Modify" and assign a value of 1.

6. Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters

7. Right-click and add a new DWORD. Name it "TCPNoDelay"

8. Right-click on the "TCPNoDelay" you just created, press "Modify" and assign a value of 1.

9. Reboot your PC!


Windows Vista/Windows 7

1. Go to Run -> type "Regedit" and press OK.
If you can't find Run, go Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt -> Type run "regedit". This should bring up Register-Editor.

2. Find: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\

3. Browse all the items under Interfaces. The one you need will have a lot of settings inside, one of these settings is named IP address OR DhcpIPAddress, the data of one of these always starts with 192.168 or 10.0.

4. Right-click inside the interface and add a new DWORD (32-bit). Name it "TcpAckFrequency".

5. Right-click on the "TcpAckFrequency" you just created, press "Modify" and assign a value of 1 (Hexadecimal radio button should be selected).

6. Right-click inside the interface again and add a new DWORD (32-bit). Name it "TCPNoDelay".

7. Right-click on the "TCPNoDelay" you just created, Press "Modify" and assign a value of 1 (Hexadecimal radio button should be selected).

8. Make sure that both TcpAckFrequency and TCPNoDelay now show up in the adapter’s property list with types REG_DWORD and values 0×00000001.

9. Reboot your PC!


This should work with almost all games, it only doesn't have effect in WoW as Blizzard disabled the algorithm in 2.3.2.

and can i ask how much ping reduction it adds and if its safe?

 

It's safe, but it's possible that your P2P download speed is reduced. If that bothers you, you can always change it back.

It reduced my ping with 200.

 

I know TcpAckFrequency modifications are safe enough when done properly for games.
I done it couple of years back and it didn't change much.

I did this when I used to play Lineage 1 years ago and it works and I still have this set up on my comp.

100% safe.

 

basically it's Leatrix. Leatrix is all set up when you click on "install", while at this one you do it manually.

I've tried it a couple of times yet it didn't give me a big difference. I get my ping from 800 to 300, that's WHEN my char just standing, not doing anything. When I move or attacking, It will just go back to 800-1000, even I was thinking it's better without leatrix, when I'm stable around 800-900.

It will work (very well) for player around Europe and NA, but for other countries, especially in Oceanic region, there will be no significant differences (for most players, not every 1 in Oceanic).

Manually editing your registry files is not always a bright idea if you do not know what you're doing.

 

.my ping is "stupider" hahaha my ping was an average of 500-900 now 900-1.2k LOL im experiencing lolly lags =.=...this sht aint helped me at all zzzzzz

 

make sure when u do this u dont have leatrix, this thing does the same sht as leatrix only that it doesnt need download and both dont come...too good...

 

I prefer leatrix, 1 click install and I'm done. It lowered my ping from 300-400 to 130-170.

Plus if I ever want it removed its only 1 click to remove it.

 

So basically is the same thing as leatrix, ... I'll keep using leatrix then (But still nice alternative there)
