PVE-focused gameplay as a caster... a promising future?

As I have only played one MMORPG in the past, I have little idea what to expect here on Aion. I am loving my character so far, and the graphics on high are fantastic. The stories are at times much more amusing and interesting than I am used to from WoW, though spending so much time over there has left it's mark, and it's slew of bad habits.

So tell me, as quickly as one can get to nine, given the XP bonus, would you guys suggest that I finish all the starting zone quests before finishing the Ascension quest, so that I get all the gameplay experience (though I do understance experience gain caps at end of level nine until Ascension quest is finished)... I'm just wondering if I should take advantage of the level freeze to store up some dough and goodies and to get some good practice in, as far as rotations and such.

Also, could someone explain to me how exactly the chat feature works? i tried typing /1 go to go general local chat, but nothing happened. and when i typed it all out i ended up actually saying in 'say' chat "/1 test"
And when I do see a few others talking, I can never understand it. Does that just mean they are opposite faction?

You can't really do much when you're level 9,so i suggest that do the quest,hit the level cap quick,and get yourself a good legion

I believe there are people out there that can help you get geared up and improving your PvP skills

First off welcome, also about the question that's up too every one themself...

The chat system is a not as extensive as you might think as far as I know there are
/s (say)
/y (shout/yell)
/shout (Same as above)
/p (party)
/l (Legion aka guild)
/a (Alliance atm it's bugged)

Also this server ain't English only so most likely you're seeing people of other cultures speaking their native language.

 

1. No need, just do the Ascension is enuff, lvling here very fast so doing quests are only for fun or for a lil kinah with newbies.
2. Type "~" to begin a normal chat, ".ely" ( for Elyos) or ".asmo" for asmos are enable trading chat, "/l" for legion chat, "/g" for a party chat.. etc.. Dont forget to press space bar b4 enter a message...

 

Great, thanks for all the help and patience with a noob here My only fear is that the leveling is too fast! I got from 1 to 9 faster than I did on Sacred 2 haha. So long as it doesn't dramatically shorten the experience altogether.

Also, how does one go about getting together with new friends, finding guilds (and are their casual guilds (I was turned off from guilds in WoW as everyone was all gung-ho about leet-speak and who was best of the best, and I prefer to just enjoy myself and meet good folks!

Thanks Melforce, I'll check there now. I may get more familiar before joining anywhere, so as not to slow everyone down while I figure out rotations and what's important in this particular game's class stats. It's refreshing to get to try something new.
