If you only consider the word alien as referring to extraterrestrials, thats true, but no I was meaning the word in a different context to get more attention to the thread ;o

Ohhh :3 I did like that! Found in Mono lake in California! Honestly though, any scientist who said "x has to be x way" is defecating upon themselves and every scientific theory out there.

Such as the theory of evolution, which states that through a series of hap hazard events, more or less summed up as luck, that we have evolved into what we are today. In absolutely no way has that indicated that humans, nor our methods of living, are paramount. In that way it is more appropriate to think of things as an evolutionary bush rather than an evolutionary ladder.

I personally am not shocked though, I am fascinated but I am not shocked that something would break our "has to be X way" thinking that many people have thought of. Scientists, especially organic chemists (fade2black ;p), should have realised by now that the DNA/RNA building blocks of any genome do not need to follow the particular rules that we "know" I am loving this underline thing to stress words D:. Fact is, there will always be exceptions... and to think our own personal evolution is the apex is biggotry...

than again we, so humble as we usually are, named ourselves primates... after primera meaning first. LOL.

Overall interesting article :3 I am glad to see that there is evidence for me, and every other cynical bastard out there, to keep saying "no you don't know everything, sir!!"

I feel almost exactly the same way. I'm fascinated, but not shocked, its definitely quite an interesting discovery, but some people I know were taking it as if it was going to change the entire world in an instant. If anything changes from the discovery though it probably wont be for a very long time. Quite amusing to see that people who think they know everything still have chances to be surprised xP

No one stated that evolution is ladder-like...(if someone did, thats mad retarded) evolution IS a bush... they call it a tree but whatever, bush works too. And the WHOLE point of this is that the DNA doesn't follow the norm, therefore its alien. We set ourselves as the standard because we aren't one celled organisms, when we find something as intelligent or more intelligent than us, then we WON'T be the norm.

Lol I doubt it will change the world dramatically, it will be a great revolution of thought though! :3 It will probably advance genetics like wild though in the upcoming years, with people trying to substitute different things... oh dear the poor PhD's who are now going bonkers LOL.

I can at least speak for myself when I say the more I learn the less I know, LOL. I knew everything 4 years ago... now I realise I know zilch. Lol.

Believe it or not I have heard dumber XD

And it isn't alien, it just is different. Alien implies it is from somewhere else, but its been under our noses from the location specified.

because I doubt theres enough people who share the interest or understand the significance of the discovery, and we're not talking significance in 100 years or more here, we're talking 10-20 at most, depending how much time and effort is invested

    (run on sentence ftw)
