To Moderators.

Let's have a chat. I'd like to discuss several things.

1.) Lately I've felt that moderation on this board has gotten too heavy handed. Specifically the spam forum. What is the purpose of this board if not to spam? I see threads getting locked for necromancy. I see infractions being given for being off topic. (Poor Cropolite, he didn't deserve that.) It's the SPAM forum. Who freaking cares? As long as post content isn't outright derogatory such as a KKK thread or something, moderation there should be kept to a bare minimum. Otherwise, what's the difference between the spam forum and the general discussion board?

2.) I've also personally experienced a moderation trend that involves infraction of people that question a moderator's actions. This is a distructive and poisonous habit that creates animosity towards the moderation team and depletes the morale of the forum in general.

3.) Moderation consistency. The same actions being taken towards some people are not being taken towards others. This is favoritism and habitually going on a vendetta to get rid of 'undesirables.' The blindfold is on the ground and the scale tipped over and fallen on top of it.

So I would like to have a talk with the moderator team and see how they feel about these statements. I want other forumites to be able to add their thoughts as well so long as they aren't flaming as well. By all means, please delete a post you feel is inappropriate. I'm willing to speak in PM, if approached in PM; even IRC would be an acceptable medium of discussion, but I want a majorly public discussion for this, and shutting this thread down would only prove me right. Not that I'm not already.

Edit: I'd like to extend this to the AM team as I'm recieving absolutely no feedback at all. How do you feel about things being done around here. Don't worry, you won't get kicked off the team for stating an opinion. I can imagine the fear, but I've gotten away with it before.

This thread doesn't really apply to me at all, I never get moderated and I don't do anything really that bad.

 

Locking this means I take it to forum admins. This thread is well within the stated rules on this board.

Cropsie has lots of stuff bad happen to him, but his forum ban means I'll be spending less time here so I'll be spending more time with him, sooooo that's a plus atleast.

A lot of infractions are things considered personal attacks or drama causing. As to personal attacks, I could say single words, or names (kar---), that some might consider a personal attack and either warn/delete my post/infract for.. reason being 'trying to start drama' when really that just creates that communism feel that they try to ignore saying there is, or mention who's 'really' in charge or backing them up. To saying discuss it in PMs, I'm aware that's the more adult thing to do, but it seem these PMs don't really resolve anything, so to bring forth the attention needed to said topic, or from said person.. a thread is created calling out to the person. For the most part, Autumn has done good to not create personal attacks or start drama, simply get answers.

Now this takes me to your third point, which I can say seems to exist. I see some mention 'communistic super moderator' and get away with it, but others such as Cropsie or CakeBaker are watched like hawks because these people want them gone, waiting for slip ups to attempt to be rid of them. I don't think this attempts will work in the end, infact I've seen Cropsie even helping a lot with a bunch of posts lately, meanwhile other actual trolls and flamers seem to get away with the thing they do. Maybe they go unnoticed, or maybe people should keep a broader eye on the community.

In any case, I can't really see who's being infracted or not, but I see the real flamers, trolls, and overall idiots walk around unbanned while people like Cropsie says one thing and pink names start to appear. I'm aware of the new rules in the process of being made, or atleast have existed since Jan 16th, why isn't the community aware of these? How do we know what we're supposed to follow when the rules we're forced to read every time a post of ours gets tagged doesn't mention a lot of these rules? It doesn't take long to make up a list of rules, Sanctus and Edi made and presented them the night after they came out, and those are still the rules most people are familiar with and follow.

As to following the rules now, it seems not even the colored named people do it, such as going off topic on threads or something simple such as violating signature sizes or seeing people violating them and not even mentioning to resize. Where is the consistency? It just seems some can get away with things while others can't, I don't want to say it's because of favoritism or asskissing, but you make it hard for me to say otherwise. Don't pick and choose who can follow certain rules, if you're going to force them on some, enforce them on everyone!

An interesting statement. And a severely destructive concept. The forum community is every bit as important as the game community. One won't exist without the other. No one would be here without a game to play, and no one would be here without the structured communition the forum offers. Or at least not nearly as many. People like to socialize in both formats, and don't want big brother breathing on their necks berating them for harmless conversation.

 

Bella mentioned the new rules around 1-2 weeks ago. And yet they still aren't up, yet she moderates enforcing them. Its sad really. I want to stay out of this, but the question is

how many drama bombs does it take to get through a thick skull?

I like how my posts get deleted and I get infracted for "insulting a member of the staff" who is no longer a member of the staff. Honestly, I really like few of the mods here, they know who they are... the rest... well, they kinda make me sick inside

7. Your signature should also not contain any content that is inappropriate, rude, offensive, etc. to other members including staff.

 

At least you posted the new rules, now I expect you to fully enforce them for every single person without favoritism. And follow them yourself. And I know I said I would stay out of it, but your hypocrisies and idiosyncrasies just daunt me to attack x.x. plus, I'm in between games currently

I assume Diavol got a warning/infraction for that post, although why it never got deleted, i have no clue. I don't even want to point out the PM you sent me laughing at Diavol and Zee's comments in the Welcome Back CakeBaker thread.

But, either way, I think your own hypocrisy and favoritism should be obvious to you by now. But the rules are posted, so now you can't be so glaringly obvious in it cause more people than just me will point it out ;o
