The "Where are we?" Question.

"Where are we?"​

This question is unlikely to be a common thing to asked before in Indonesian culture. Because supposedly, the man is the one who "asked" the woman before they will enter in any kind of serious relationship. Those women got pretty good self-assurance back then, since this is a "basic rule" in our society.

As the global thingy become a trend nowadays, woman got their emancipation power, man becoming much more easier in looking how the relationship should works. The woman also, aren't afraid to enter the "unofficial" relationship anymore without being stamped as a tramp. They called it lifestyle.

And so it began.

I heard that kinda question alot these days, and one of my close boy friend even shared his story how he was terrified for the very 1st time when he's been asked that question; even though he's in love with that woman. That makes me confused. Wasn't he supposed to be happy when he heard that question? I mean, c'mon guys. For women, when we asked you that "where are we?" question, we are willingly to give ourselves to be yours only; no other. But oh boy, the reality is not that kind.

For my part, I've totally been there. Don't feel sorry for me though, it end up good. I've been going out with a guy that I'm in love with for 3 years. For some good and complicated reason that us can only understand, we're decided that we'll not gonna be together. Again, don't ever feel sorry for me. We're still seeing each other right now.

However, I still remember how dreading I am when the first time I throw the question "where are we?" to him. (Well i'm gonna skip the how-the-conversation part going, to save us from some tears)
Now I can trully feel how the other girls are feeling. That moment, I felt like I'm loosing my pride as a woman. I'm puting all I have on stake, scared of loosing 'em altogether. That's all just for one reason. Because I think I love him that much; to think that what we have is much more precious to be left unattended, or even just to be forget about. After we came out with our decision, I cried (after a few hours later- coz I made a promise to self not to cry infront of him)
I wasn't sad, I wasn't hurt. I love him even more..

"We love what we can't have, and we can't have what we love."

Okay, I'm telling you don't feel sorry for me, ever. Right now we're in a good place. Where we're still friends, still seeing each other, and be happy for whatever we do now. I'm happy that I've asked him that question. Now I don't have to ask that anymore, because we know that we don't need a relationship for us to enjoy every single moment together.

The perfect question now will be "where am I?"
Well I know perfectly that I'm happy and feel loved. No further answer.


Lessons to be learned:

a) Girls, I know it'll make you happy as hell if you fall in love. But it's more important to fall in love with the right person. Make sure the person is worthwhile to be asked that "where are we?" question, or you'll end up heartbreaking, again.

b) Boys, please do treat the girls right. Actually you already know what to do. No need to remind you again.
