I didn't see any forum rule, so I'm posting it. Also I don't want to change anyone in any way, I just want to see more people's opinions about this, that's all.

Let's start. I believe that religion is just a way of manipulating people, since the beginning of the humanity they tried to do that through "God's will". Also, gods were created by humans as imaginary beings to explain the unexplainable (or were afraid of), such as: fire, lightning, the whole Universe. Now, in a world where science is making progress and we're closer and closer to solving most of the mysteries, I wonder if in the end it was all a fake. Of course, believing in something makes you go further, always try your best because "god" helps you, but is this all real?

I want to know, do you believe in a god? If yes, why? If no, why?

Although it sounds a little bit hippy by today's standards (and that I could care less about), I do believe that there's a God, and most of his teachings (even if they're made up by mere humans] are reasonable and can be applied to real life.
But I just don't believe in him. There's no ground to do so. And most of th religiously devoted people I know are really radical people.

    I'd say I'm agnostic.

I used to study up on all the different religions, trying to find an answer for myself about this whole.. subject. Well, the first thing I realized is the connection between a lot of religions, if you read into the fine print well enough you notice they're all almost identical in the way events take place, people being given different names in some of course, while some also hold more strict rules and others not so much.

I continue on and learn more about them, such as how people worship, and how they exist in there environment with these other people, and this is usually where the problems start to take place, the religions 'books, bibles they come from' technically aren't doing anything that would be considered wrong.. they're just like stories, told in different ways that get the mind of the reader thinking. That's what every book does right? It's the human mind that takes it a step beyond and tries to apply these things to their existence, replacing the wonder of everything, with the simple answer of that's how god has willed it. As an intelligent species (arguable) why do we settle so easily for such an answer without looking farther for truth? We do, don't get me wrong, many great minds such as Einstein didn't stop and begin worship, instead he found his own truths through science.

Now my opinion (and just that, don't get worked up) I don't believe there is a god, if there was some mind out there a long time ago who had the intentions of using religion as a way to control people, I think his intentions with them were good. To say, I think he did it to bring order to the chaos that is our existence, and give people a strong moral guide to follow so we don't run around like lawless animals. While as I said, these intentions were good, why can't we as an intelligent species overcome these primal instincts and coexist in peace? Look through history yourself, and see how many different wars have been fought just because of religion itself. Having studied many, I can honestly tell you, none of these 'gods' say kill or conquer in my name, it's just our species itself that takes it one step further and corrupts it.

In the end, I'll just say no, I don't believe. I didn't read Harry Potter and think I could start casting spells, I read it for its interesting story and lessons you can learn from it. I don't see the need to go further into details with it, would this point of view offend some people? Of course, many are tied and strong in there beliefs, but i'm open minded and willing to accept that your answer is god. Does that make you weak? In my eyes, no, but I certainly hope your intelligent enough to be seeking the answer for yourself, don't just stop where you're at and accept what you think is right, explore! I went to atleast 5 different churches over my study, catholic, christian, you name it.. looking for my answer, and I was raised christian in a private school where I used to live.

In other words, keep looking for your own truths. Don't say 'tide goes in, tide goes out, never a miscommunication'

    I dont believe in God.

Religion is an invention of the human race as a mean to gain social control over its own kind. Adieu posted that there were many religions and that they were all connected.. the reason for this (my reason at least) is that its created by the same species, meaning its done with the same goal, the same purpose... Social control. The difference go more in the way to penetrate in the society in which its being applied (cultural terms).

But same species, same brain, same weakness, same reasoning, same mysthicism (maybe differs by cultural reasons, but wants the same)...

    my 2 cents

STOP. Please stop. Making a religious thread isn't such a good idea after all.
PLEASE STOP NOW before Tousen goes all religious and other atheists and agnostics start to troll each other to death.

I am truly sorry mate... but I wont go in this discussion, not because I cant answer... but you have a strong set of beliefs to ask that, in the way you asked it... and it will end in a bad discussion.
