    When you have two constants, or two variables divided by each other in an equation, you can cancel them out and replace them with a simple 1.

    For example

    x/x =1

    k/2k = 1/2

    pi*k/(2k) = pi/2

    Also 0 multiplied by anything is 0.

    1*0 = 0

    100000*0 =

    pi*0/2k = 0

    Just some stuff that seems basic, but I was shocked to learn how some people were unaware these rules ever existed in math.

    That is all

    also, I should point out since we're on the topic that x^2/3 equals the cubed root of (x^2)

    ;o.....

    ah, but how to correctly write it in numerous forms, that can be confusing, especially when your focus of attention is to that huge infinite series of Taylor polynomials...

    Also, I doubt spotting derivatives falls under the umbrella of "basic math"

    Ah, so you fell into a trap just like me. Let's see:

    1/3 = 0.3333333333333333~
    -> 3*1/3 = 0.999999999999999999999~

    But there's also

    3*1/3 = 3/3 = 1

    ----> 0.999999999999~ = 1

    Apparently infinity times zero is undefined, though. x_x

    I'm tempted to say something, but college math isn't my strong field....yet.

    Oh god, no just no. Actually reminds me of that torture I have to go through in math.

    .333333333333333333333333 repeating is not actually EQUAL to 1/3, so thereby, multiplying it by 3, does not make .9999999999999999999 repeating equal to 1

    0 times infinite is INDETERMINATE

    NOT undefined. It can equal 0 sometimes, it can equal 2 sometimes, it can equal infinite sometimes. Or well, to be more exact, the LIMIT can equal that.

    GOD EFF YOU, this was not a serious math thread
