Remove sig 1k char restrictions

I understand that you want to limit the size of people's signatures since they can take up massive amounts of space, however limiting both the dimensions as well as the number of characters is ridiculous and unfair.

A lot of people already trashed their image for the sake of preserving their helpful links, but right now even if we have a relatively small signature WAY below the 250px restrictions, we cant even fully use it because it throws the 1,000 characters including BBCode restriction at us.

BBCode is totally irrelevant as its not even visible and every url wastes bout a 100 characters of it even if its hidden in a single clickable word. As a result, people can keep neither their image, nor their helpful links that would satisfy the spacial restrictions.

My question is, could we remove the character restrctions or make them exclude BBCode? Thanks

other way around. trashed my sig to keep helpful links and guess what, i cant even keep those

my actual sig is 280 characters WITH spaces yet its already literally 1,000 characters with BBCode. cant put anything else even though i have the available space for it

if this is about your helpful links that are too long you can use this instead:

for example you have the following link:

you could replace the link to:

Code:

/showthread.php?t=44398

if the link is a post on the forums there's no need on having the whole forum link on it "http/forum.gameznetwork.com"

that should give you a lot of free characters to use on your signature.

 

thx but either way, is this really necessary? why include BBCode in the character count when its in fact invisible and takes up 0 space?

and why do we even need a character count when u have a hard cap on sig dimensions?

 

ill increase the character limit including bbcode on next update.

There's no way you have 700+ chars in bbcode.

yes i was at the limit actually, i simplified the links a lot now, thos took up the most chars by far. also noticed i had some duplicate text formatting so i cleaned that up too

in any case, theres still a 250px limit, what we do with it should be our own business so character restrictions r just an annoyance

 

Regardless of whether I have a sig on an internet forum, I know how sigs work. I write software during my day job, what do you do? I'd probably suggest a little less sass next time. Also, what you do with it isn't your business. You're hosting it on a forum, the more crap you stuff in your sig = the more traffic/bandwidth the server is pulling. More traffic/bandwidth = more money to maintain the server.

So, post your sig so we can count the chars.

whens the last time the server got an upgrade? hmm...over half a year ago

its not THAT much traffic considering that it actually saves them time from having to deal with people that have problems coz they can solve them themselves aka saves traffic from them having to search through the damn forums and find it on their own

Also, keeping the server online = money.
Expenditures are expenditures, no matter how you look at them.

You really don't know how traffic works, do you?

Because it sounds like an outlandish claim, unless you're designing a web page in your signature.

its not as big anymore coz i cleared up the links and little font formatting, but even now its 765 characters, just so u know >.>

Temporary fix - if you put your links into a link shortener (goo.gl), it'll save a lot of characters.
