topic reminds me of LOST. I may not have been the biggest fan of the ending, but if there's one thing that show did was to make me actually think about the implications of destiny. It was quite interesting ;o, really higher level thinking.

Super long, almost biblical, story put shortly, the idea is that there are two people, a man of faith and a man of science. At first, it seems like the man of faith understands everything and is "correct" but as the story progresses, it turns out he is just a miserable person trying to find something to believe in. Science takes a dominant role in the next few seasons, and man of faith dies a miserable and broken man. However, his lasting impact, other than seeming like a nut, is putting doubts into the mind of the man of science. Man of science becomes miserable in his pursuit of "free will," and decides he does have a destiny he needs to complete. He starts to fall into the same rut of believing anything is his destiny, but eventually comes a full circle when he decides to sacrifice himself, believing that that was his destiny all along. He dies a peaceful man, achieving redemption.

Basically, achieving the Dickensian idea of "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to, than I have ever known."

Its quite an interesting tv show, if you ignore the failure of the writers to tie up all the mysteries in a neat bow.

I dumbed the show down in terms of the theme of destiny. There's a lot more dealing with religion, faith, God, and well, the mysteries. And a whole ton of backstory. I can't even begin to explain it all, there are so many layer and so much going on D:

But basically, the idea is these group of passengers, all who are technically "broken" crash land on this island. And the story takes off from there.
