Philosophy & Religion, which came first

Thats the one GOOD byproduct of religion. Even if they are motivated by fear, you don't have people doing morally wrong acts, because at its center, religion is a moral code. But then again, on the other side, you have lunatics who kill in the name of god. In fact, every religion has had people kill in the name of their god.

Honestly, you people make it seem like controlling sheep is bad. I'm sorry, you have waaay too much faith in the human race if you think that that's not a good idea.

It's not always bad but either good. Let's just take a look at what is the main line of most religions: the freedom of choice, the better after-life.

So, basicly if you choose to mind control people then you immediatly take the rigth of free choicefrom them. Dun you think that when one is controling others it just makes, whose poeple who are being blind followers of the religion, to be 'mind' slaves who obey to someone's beliefs (but not theirs) aka one certain religion?

 

Human nature is based in greed. You'll be surprised at how much the impact of religion and law have over that.

Everyone has free will, no one will stop you from killing someone today. The point is, YOU won't. Because of legal consequences, because of moral consequences. Religion is just another check. It doesn't deter everyone, but it doesn't hurt. If you look at it in that light, I do think a lot of bad comes from religion also. But the mind control? No, I think thats a benefit.

My point is that noone has the right to use more power over someone else. You just can force someone to do something and be happy about it after, but in what cost tho?

 

Sir, no one is forcing anyone. Its manipulation. The fact of the matter is, there are actually people who BELIEVE in religion. Religion gives people hope. It gives them something to believe in in a world that is frankly godless. It establishes morality. No one is putting a gun to your head and telling you, don't go around robbing people, killing people, doing immoral acts. They do it. Sure, they do it for something that isn't exactly "verified," but they make that decision.

Like I said, mankind isn't inherently good. They are inherently BAD. And religion and government are part of a SOCIAL CONTRACT (wee, Hobbes and Lockian philosophy) that people made. Government is akin to religion in this aspect. What you are suggesting is anarchy. Government technically forces people to obey laws. Religion urges people to follow moral and ethical laws.

Still, people who believe in religion TOO MUCH never turn out right. That's one of my experiences.

 

Good thing I was reading CakeBakers post, I was just about to say what he was going too. What you see here in today's religion is just the minatory of people doing it wrong. It's similar to how the media illustrates black youth associated with hip-hop and that it causes violence in the hood because of the apparent negativity of another minatory of hip-hop, and that is the music industry. They appear themselves to be the biggest hit in hip-hop history but truth is, the underground hip-hop shines above them in quality and quantity.

We've just been illustrated that being religious in today's times (depending in what country you're in, like first world one's) is not the way to go because of it's history (god knows how much of it's true and how much we even bother to know), I still think human greed is the biggest cause of murder and negativity in history and even today. You got to remember during ancient times and the past, religion was of the greatest importance, and they never had the amount of disturbance we have currently, without that we would not be where we are today, the world was not born from the 20th century. Truth be told, in our greatest, darkest hour in life the one thing I do know that can get us back on our feet is faith and hope, even if we are not driving by religion.

I still believe that not necessarily religion, but having some understanding to the spiritual soul is much more important now than back then. If we are just purely technical reliant and except only the media and the government to lead us in a better world, and that they're right then I believe we've hit a dead end and are simply here, existing and just routing our natural greed and being spoon fed in a consumers society. We're pretty much in a spiritual war with ourselves without realising it, trying to understand a truth to our own identity and currently the only thing that is holding us together is just money and the consumers society. Perhaps it's what we need to understand ourselves deeply.

 

Religion is mind control.
War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength.

That applies to any desires. Follow that desire to the extent of deny what's around you, then you've become a slave to your own will.
