    This is damage I made on retail and I cannot figure out formula for it.

    Attacker: 43lvl Sorcerer
    Target: 43lvl Templar

    total damage = damage I made

    Can someone help me with the formula? Who ever finds it will get rewarded.

    I'm guessing theres supposed to be a picture there (I don't see one :C) because I don't see any damage, anywhere in your post, and its really confusing >.<

    The exact formula for the increase in spell damage with a given amount of magic boost is:
    increase% = mboost / ( knowledge / 10 )

    Because sorcs have a knowledge stat of 120, you can see that 1200 magic boost results in a 1200/(120/10)=100% damage increase. If instead you were trying to find the increase for a spiritmaster with 1200 magic boost, who has 115 knowledge instead, it would be 1200/(115/10)=104%.

    If you want to find the exact damage that a given spell will do after the increase with magic boost, use this formula:

    total_dmg = tooltip_dmg * pvp_modifier * ( 1 + ( mboost / ( knowledge / 10 ) / 100 ) )

    For example, let's compute the damage of Inferno II in pve and then in pvp, given 2600 magic boost.

    PVE: 7211 = 2277 * ( 1 + ( 2600 / ( 120 / 10 ) / 100 ) )
    PVP: 3605 = 2277 * 0.5 * ( 1 + ( 2600 / ( 120 / 10 ) / 100 ) )

    For one more example, let's do Infernal Pain (spiritmaster), given 2200 magic boost.

    PVE: 6674 = 2291 * ( 1 + ( 2200 / ( 115 / 10 ) / 100 ) )
    PVP: 3337 = 2291 * 0.5 * ( 1 + ( 2200 / ( 115 / 10 ) / 100 ) )

    I don't need copy paste. I've already tried this formula (many of them) and it doesn't work. You can calculate and you will see that result is different as on retail.

    I read that forum thread that was linked. Here's a pretty convincing post from it:
    Yes, I know you don't want copy-pasted stuff, but these guys ARE playing retail and they ARE experienced. This formula is pretty dead on. If you're finding anomalies in the values between it and the ones you have, then that is probably taking into account the elemental resist and PvP.

    Sure, we still have to figure out what the quirk is to making it all equal out, but the formula and the values shouldn't just be shrugged off as if they don't work.


    Edit: Doing a full calculation with the above posted formula, I got an end expected value of 661.05 for the first mentioned skill. Yes its off, but its within a reasonable range that I think the formula is what we should be basing things off of, I'm fairly certain that what is going wrong is mostly related to elemental resist or pvp reduction values.

    i made some calculations, and came up 97 percent close to your results, some how im missing a variable some where... and i am not sure... but here's the formula so far.

    ((knowledge / mb) * tooltipdmg + tooltipdmg) - ((knowledge / mb) * tooltipdmg + tooltipdmg) * (target elem resist / 100)

    You need to include pvp modifier. There is different result if you kill player or a mob.

    Could you upload some data against 1 type of mob and against target dummies as well? Its easier to confirm a formula on NPCs first and then calculate elemental resists and PvP reductions later, than to make a formula for PvP off the bat.

    just asking...
    evil .. u say that the sorc dmg is too high on gamez?
    have u tried with a lvl 55 sorc on retail...and full gear ..or naked lvl 55 then add gear and see how the stats of your gear affects the damage?
