Opinions?

Simply because one has the ability to possibly save the world, should he be expected use that ability if needed?
Various views and opinions are welcome. I'm curious if anyone can add a religious background to this. If I had the ability to save the world from the direction it's headed in, at this very moment I would not.
I can imagine someone religious telling me god gave me this gift for a reason and it would be a slap in the face to god not to use it. I can also understand the pressure and resentment being given such a huge responsibility you didn't want in the first place to be shoved on to your shoulders.

If you don't want to do it, then you shouldn't have to. Everyone has a gift, but you get to chose if you want to use it, what you want to use it for, or even if you don't want to use it at all.

 

So in your opinion I should be able to shrug that off my shoulders and allow human nature to destroy itself? Without gaining an ounce of negative karma?

 

Well.. It's just my (selfish I guess you could put it) opinion. Like I remember one of my Teachers was getting horribly mad at me for not using a "gift" the way they wanted me to, so they'd treat me like rubbish, and even tell me I'm "doing it wrong." Well, I'm pretty stubborn, so I did the exact opposite of what they wanted me to~ Just how I am I guess.

I don't want something forced upon me, it just makes me depressed.

 

I'm typically the same way. I've always been told I'm wasting my gift, not using my talent whatever whatever. I'm just curious if anyone believes there's moral punishment for choosing to waste it?

If you got the gift and can do it well, then why put it to waste and lose your knowledge/touch in it. Its like your muscles... If you dont use them, they become weak and you have to gain back the strength..

Use the gift for what its intended to be use for but don't over power yourself with greed in the process of using this gift.

 

Inevitably human's will destroy themselves whether we like it or not. Fact is, when it comes down to it, we are just too belligerent as a race. We want peace, yet we are still willing to kill someone at a moments notice over land, oil, money, etc. If you want to save humans or not is your choice. Even if you were to save them now, what is to stop them from reverting back to this course later on? Human's are constantly changing and evolving so what peace that can be garnered now through you saving them may only last for a short while before we start fighting again. Sadly we just can't seem to get along with others that we deem different. Peace is just an illusion because of this.

You can save them or not. Apart of me would not save them because of what I said above. I've seen the darkest and most heinous things humans are capable of with my own eyes and it truly disgusts me. I can't count how many times I've blown up the world in my head because I just get so tired of humans as a whole. I don't place everyone in that bracket though. Their are some that I have met that are different than that and they do give me some hope for humanity, if just a little at that.

I don't really believe in "negative karma", but like many others I do typically waste my talents on foolish endeavors. I'm a bit lazy I guess.

 

Nothing is impossible. There is only highly improbable. With that in mind, if I did in fact have the ability to fix the human race as a whole, permanently, would I be a bad person for choosing not to?

 

But what if your gift was murder, or something that made the world more corrupt? Should you still have to use it?

 

Murder is not a gift.

 

I won't save the world. This world is corrupt. I'll die with it.

 

I'd use it o.o but all my werewolfness is, is something people really know jack about lol :3

Yeah, at first my answer was along these lines.
Is this really a world worth saving?
Every hundred years it gets closer and closer to being destroyed by humans.
Nothing has harmed this planet this quickly but us.

Then I also thought of the beautiful things that we've made and discovered in this world.
Music
Art
Love.
The things that make living worthwhile.

I'm not sure that I would use whatever gift you might be talking about, but it would take a lot of thinking to imagine if humans would save this world from themselves, or if I'd have to use my gift for it.

 

if you don't believe in God, then there's no point in believing about Karma too.

also you did not ask the gift, if it was given to you by accident then i'd probably put you in a experimental room to study you. but then you still have the ability to choose for yourself, you are still human.

also let nature take its course if you are meant to help then so be it, if not you just watch as it happens.

for me, i'd probably watch it as it happens and let nature take its course. the world needs a bit of cleansing.
