?

Would you rather see a physician in a white lab coat over other clothing options?

    Well.

It has come to mind a few times, this "dilemma". So why not make a topic on it :3

#1: Physicians tend to enjoy to wear white lab coats. Regardless of the fact they don't step in 100 mile radius of the nearest laboratory at times. And the fact that even though scrubs are "easily accessible", are shockingly worn quite infrequently.

Some people claim that it spread's germs and is correlated to a "phenomenon" called White-Coat-Hypertension
    (Link here: White-Coat Hypertension )

And would rather see it become banned than anything else.

#2: Some people, on the other hand, tend to gravitate more towards a "traditionalist" view... that it was back in the 1800's a large issue (now adays you'd probably be dismembered limb by limb in agony, no anaesthetic included) that doctors would walk into surgery/etc and merely roll up their sleeves and "get at er" XD

And then we have the ironic viewpoint that many physicians tend to enjoy to wear suits under their labcoat. Suits + tie.

#3: However, I don't know if that quite dismembers the arguement itself that the physician wears the coat merely for the fact that it prevents them, themselves, from contracting something. (Avoiding spills, burns, etc.......) Since suits can be quite the buggers and require dry-cleaning. WTB> Non-drycleaned suit (Bettah than ABG!)!

#4: BUT THEN... you get the viewpoint that people, instead, feel more comforatable around physicians that wear white coats (psychological).

Quote from here: Mother in the Middle: A Biologist's ... - Sybil Lockhart - Google Books

the "The door opened and..." one.

#5: And that the physician themselves feels empowered and that they put on a new "persona" almost... as described in this article.

Quote from here: Should Physicians Wear White Coats? - Better Health

"I must admit I like my white coat. It has pockets that are filled with my needed paraphernalia and tools. It protects my clothes and when I don it, I take on a professional personae…I’m no longer a wife, mother, insecure female, or worried about (fill in the blank)…I am a doctor. It helps me shift into a professional role with focus and clarity. I know it is psychologic, but for me it works"

What is your opinion on this? Do you rather see your physician (or any for that matter) in a white coat?

Added a poll for some "interactive funzies". XD

I'd love to wear a coat if I could, but I'd prefer black.

Come to think about it, why aren't lab coats black?

White coat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Supposedly... from what this articles says.

"White versus blackUntil the mid-1920s, students who were examining cadavers would wear black lab coats to show respect for the dead. Black lab coats were used in early biomedical and microbiology laboratories because any dust (i.e., contamination) that settled on them was easily visible

Why not now? Unless there's a code of ethics or something similar, we should be free to pick our own colors (ones that are not extremely obnoxious, that is).

    I like white :x xDDDDD!

I'm not exactly sure though to be honest. Probably because its classical and classy and fits in with the norm.

If a doctor went around parading with black people may think they are the harbinger of death xD

I will make a hot pink lab coat with bright lime green buttons and a huge red belt/tie, and ill dye my hair purple and orange. And after all of that, I will give my son the iron throne.

THIS I WILL DO FOR THE MOON OF MY LIFE
