Trying to install game - how do I get installation to recognize existance of patches?

Hello there.
(sorry if this is the incorrect area, but it seemed most appropriate as I couldn't find a general 'game issues' area [outside of the server categories], and similar help threads relating to patching were
in these)
I'm wanting to start playing aion, and I got some patches I've downloaded when I tried it ages ago,
that go up to 1.5.1.10.
However, I can't seem to workout how to make the patcher recognize these already existing files.
I set it up to install, then exit the patcher and move these files into the directory, but it still just
wants to patch from 0.0.0.0 to 2.6.0.0.
Also I've hunted down other direct-link downloads for patches, and all of them seem to time-out.
Is there some very recent change to their servers that have caused this?

I'd really appreciate any help I can have with this as I was looking forward to playing again,
(but can't afford the bandwidth of the full 10gig download of 0 to 2.6).

I think you need to have the game installed first. Patch files are really patch files and they don't have the core files of the game.
Try to download the game from an external web page then try installing the patches you already have and see if it starts to update from 1.5.1.10.
I'm afraid I can't be of much help to your question but lets see what others say

 

i don't think those patches work anymore. i think the ncsoft patches directly to 2.6 if you don't already have a base prior patch.
you can try the torrent sites but i wouldn't trust them. you might be better off just having a friend who already has a working install, burn you a copy.

 

cant u do a repair of the files u have so the launcher recognize ur files and updates and downloads the files ur missing to get the correct version ?

All that searching...and until now not a single location had mentioned anything about extracting the files XD;
Thanks though to you all mentioning trying to get the base files, etc, I did some more searching and ended
up discovering that the patch files need to be extracted for the launcher to recognize them, and so far
that's worked a treat . It now recognizes it, however it doesn't have any patches from that to 2.6 and
wants to repair it, hopefully that isn't another word for 'lets re-download all 11 gigs anyway' xD;

So thanks for your responses, managed to reach the issue thanks to them .

Also, I don't suppose anyone knows why direct links to patches posted now aren't downloading?

Do they simply not exist on the server anymore, and if so does anyone know about direct-links to the latest
patches possibly?
