so Curse.com has been giving beta keys away for "Pandora Saga" for a while now, I'm not sure if its supposed to end up being subscription based or FTP or what but I just happened to see a new article about said MMO pop up on Curse and thought it was interesting, its pretty tl;dr so only read on if you don't mind a huge wall

Atlus Online's latest MMORPG Pandora Saga takes a really refreshing stab at Player vs Player combat. Nearly every MMO has PvP, but not all of them offer such a fresh and engaging experience as Atlus has created in Pandora Saga.
Players are able to choose their race, faction allegiance and class before they jump into epic, PvP combat in one of the main PvP modes, ranging from party-based fighting to all-out, 750-player Guild vs Guild battles where up to 750 players and 20 guilds can participate at one time. Pandora Saga has a PvP mode for everyone so, without further ado, let's take a look at a few.

Astian Underground, Party-based PvP

This is the basic level of Player vs Player battles, unlocked at level 30. After that level, players can party up and enter the Astian Underground Ruins where they will battle rival factions -- even members of their own nation. Aside from other players, you will also have to be ready to combat near-invincible monsters that are ready to guard their treasures with their lives.

The Astian Underground is perfect for players looking to jump into a quick PvP mode with an almost free-for-all feel to it.

Clash of the Nations, 300-player RvR

Things start to really heat up in Clash of the Nations. This mode introduces Realm vs Realm (RvR) gameplay into the game. In Pandora Saga, players choose from three factions or Nations; the Latugan Empire, the Kingdom of St. Pfelstein, and the Confederation of Varik.. In Clash of the Nations, all three factions are battling it out in large-scale, territory control battles.

Players will have to join forces with their faction to capture and control points on the strategically designed map. Everyone gains honor but the winners will end up earning increased experience and higher drop rates for their particular Nation.

Clash of the Nations supports up to 300 players at one time. Players just need to register as either Militia, Regular or Commander. There is no fee to register as Militia, but these players are placed into a queue before they can enter the war zone. Additionally, players who show outstanding merits in battle will be able to earn medals regardless of whether your faction comes out on top.

Siege of Sieghelm, 600-player RvR

This is sort of a step up from Clash of the Nations, although both game modes have their merits as the contrast between player counts on each mode really changes the dynamic of the battle. In the Siege of Sieghelm, players will once again join forces with other warriors in their nation. The factions are still Kingdom, Varik and Empire but with 300 more players on the map, players will have to change up their gameplay to win.

The Siege of Sieghelm is an epic, two-hour battle between factions where players will have to both defend their towers from enemy attacks and make the charge into enemy territory to attack them in turn.

In this game mode, however, players can apply as Militia, Regulars, Vice Commander, or Supreme Commander and will receive different merits for each. Players must be level 45 or higher before they can jump into the Siege of Sieghelm, and you'll want that experience under your belt before diving into 600-player combat.

Seicavalie, 750-player GvG

The Decisive Battle of Seicavalie is the ultimate battle in Pandora Saga. Players must be ready for grand-scale, 750 player, 20 guild wars that can't be won without strategy and skill in battle. Seicavalie is essentially a guild-focused war, as the map offers each nation four guild-specific forts, as well as the option to hire mercenaries to put the pressure on their enemies.

In Seicavalie, the Land of the Stone Seige, players are able to utilize massive castle weapons, including battering rams, catapults, and ballistas that will be necessary in capturing enemy fortresses.

Additionally, Seicavalie offers players unique quests and items if they are brave enough to enter the massive-scale war.

These four game modes are actually only a sample of what Pandora Saga offers in terms of PvP. The game also features a 100-player raid system and 200-player RvR battles. Two things that grabbed our attention in all of these game modes were Pandora Saga's mounted combat and its wide array of elemental weaponry.

In Pandora Saga, players can purchase a horse from Equestrian NPC Shopkeepers. These mounts are customizable, come in a variety of colors and can be male of female. Additionally, like players, mounts can be given gear that will enhance their stats as they level up over time. Fighting from horseback is both fun and practical, as your steed is faster than you in combat, and players will sometimes need to retreat and re-think their tactics for the battle at hand.

Elemental weapons, on the other hand, are weapons that have been enhanced by the elements in Pandora Saga; Ice, Fire, Poison, Dark, Lightning, Prismatic and Holy.

Weapons can be enhanced with Rune Gems, offering superior abilities than a similar non-Elemental weapon. This can range from things like increased change of critical hit to a higher chance of unseating mounted opponents. These extra bonuses come on top of the elemental damage that the weapons will wield; Ice weapons inflict Freeze, Fire weapons inflict Burn, etc. Once upgraded high enough, the weapons also change aesthetically to reflect the element that has been applied to it.

Elemental Weapons totally change the dynamic of the game when you are using them or having them used against you. If you see a player with an Avalance Axe approaching you, you're going to think twice about how to approach the battle lest your opponent inflicts Freeze upon you and gains the upper hand. Likewise, if you have a Phoenix Bow in your arsenal, you're bound to feel a bit more confident knowing that any of your attacks may inflict Burn on your target, sealing their physical skills.

Pandora Saga's PvP offering is as deep as we've seen in an MMO and we really think that the game has something for everyone. Well if it was balanced and some people were tasked with strategic jobs (e.g. firing ballistas, commanding troops, etc.) you'd call it a siege or a battle ;p. Normally zerg refers to people overwhelming a smaller group without much skill or tactic, but it would definitely be chaotic nonetheless o.o

Yeah xD battles would be huge, chaotic and probably laggy for some people, but at the same time they'd have an epic feel to them.

I can still remember my first castle siege on retail lineage 2, probably over 500 people in the battle, and it was probably the most epic 2 hours of gaming i've ever experienced o.o

I played my share of games and most of them embrace the massive epic warfare or sieges... You always end with a smirk in your face seeing 400+ people playing and feeling the off the scale epicness
