Donation Refund

-.- I was saying that what he makes from his day job goes to paying bills and getting food. Also to be fair I could of compared the donation with anything really I just don't like church anyway so smacking two birds with one stone was fun.

Anyway you missed the point that his own salary goes to bills and food... Donations go to server... At least that's how it should be and that's how I believe it is.

 

Most of the donations go into his and aeon's pockets. devs do not get paid, so I do not see how ANY of the money is going to anything but monthly server costs of which he is clearly making a profit from

 

Well I did say the way I explained is how it ought to be and how I hope it is. ^^ Never said it was the reality of things.

 

I do get the point,but the thing is, that it should be already a better place to play and it isn't. If things get better I will be more than happy to donate an even greater ammount of money, but until then I will put my money into something more useful. I would like to believe that as well, but at the time being, this seems like a proper rip off.

 

Top private servers tend to be for profit businesses. I'd like to not believe this crap omggg is spouting (and he's been reported for it), but I can't really imagine Carl not making profits off this server. Not that it matters. If you make something good, you deserve what people are willing to pay you.

Also truth be told the rant was mostly from a my own viewpoint as an ex-developer... Not here another place... WoWFusion... When in legal trouble the owner took the money n ran... Sad thing really but still things oughta be done right or not at all... That's how I usually see things...

 

As a web designer and being on various Emulator project dev teams and running my own servers back in the day.. Let me break this down for you. Donations are not mandotory or required to play.

How ever they do help the free server community's strive. All the staff's from dev team to GM's to forum mods volenteer their time.

The server owners have to pay for the server (the server machine it self not the emulators), Pay the data Company for hosting the server, bandwidth fee's.
There is no promise the server will be up 100% As it is a emulated server problems arise,bugs arise server crash and need to be restarted.

You get credits and rewards and access non donators dont get. So be happy with what you get and if that isnt enough go pay 15$ a month to retail.

Oh and as for hosting emulators are illegal just for running them not just taking donations as you claim.

I owned Blizzhackers.com blizzhackers.net and the blizzcraft.com networks which wasnt a hacking site but a emulator dev forum. and free server gaming network. which now resides under the name emupedia.com which was pass on to my mate bloody as i retired ages ago.

 

I got banned because of u and im not donator and you are using speed in front of GM because of your donation?This is pathetic..

 

Then I will remind you the L2World and the other L2J legal disputes when at the end of the day the did hunt them down for taking donations. I was moderator @ Ragezone and been deving 5-6 L2J ages ago (C4-C5-Interlude) so I also do know..
But the thing is guys and to be clear, I have nothing personal with Carl or any other member of the staff,its just that I think my money is NOT well spent and I claim them back.
If Carl makes a profit,fine by me, nothing against it but I would strongly suggest against donating until he takes up this thing in a proper way.

 

l2j was a pos emulator imo and still is... and ncsoft did go after people taking donations.. but not as fierce as blizzard did i still remeber the cops comeing to my house as blizzard took my pc harddrives to check em out althou i had all the server crap on a remoted server in aussie

I find it horrendously unusual that an admin barely logs on and only checks for donation issues. I think thats a serious pitfall. Sure he has real life, but if he can't spare more than 5 mintures a day, he shouldn't be admin.

 

He owns the system, therefore he should be admin. As long as the volunteers he has hired are keeping things running, he doesn't actually have to do anything besides the stuff he absolutely has to do like apply patches, restart the server, and check donation issues.

 

he also has a mu server wow server and 2 aion servers x_X..each of them with a different machine to host them

 

Im sorry, thats just a lame excuse...Its been 12 hours and alot of the staff is on,no answer though. Again Im sorry to say this,but this is pathetic. No interest at all?

 

I wouldn't expect the staff to want to say anything that isn't their place to say. It's an issue that only green names should really be addressing.

 

Umm, wow is dead. Crystal is dead. Can't say anything bout MU but I am pretty sure its unpopulated. And admins should be on for more than 5 mins. Or stuff like what happened on crystal or whats happening now happen

 

Well,imho, they should log once in a while just to check...has been like half a day and still nothing...Or at least,get some people for that!
