so that is not a bug? ..any enlightening ways on how to prevent it other than simply~ kill 'em all

yesterday, my group which was 3 players got literally zerged by a horde of that x_x

 

It's not a bug. It's really the boss' ability. This is one of the 2 reasons why you need Spirit Master for Rentus Base runs if you want it to be A LOT faster and easier.

At certain point, the boss will cast a shield that's like Boon of Iron Clad. He then will call more monsters to help him. He won't stop doing it so it's either you kill the monsters he calls as fast as your group can and continue DPSing the boss or you'll have too many of those monsters until your healers can no longer out-heal the damage from spawned monsters and from the boss. This is how it goes if you do Rentus Base without Spirit Master.

With Spirit Master, you don't have to do it that way because there's someone who can dispel the shield so all your group should do is focus on DPSing the boss and ignore the spawned monsters until it goes to phase 2. Since he won't have the shield, he won't have enough time to spawn enough monsters to kill your whole group.

 

^ In addition to the points you've mentioned, SMs can also Fear Shriek to buy time and divert the spawns away so the cleric has a easier time to heal.
