i was told that the crit cap is like 540.
but when i started to socket my set i made it 640.
so the question is, is that a bug or something?
so what crit rate i need for my ranger? till what level should i cap it?
and btw what does SOFT CAP mean? difference between soft cap and cap?

How Crit Strike Percentage is Calculated

Crit Strike has a certain chance of activating when you deal physical damage to a target. Crit Strike can be increased with the use of certain kinds of armor, weapons, accessories, titles and manastones.

    +0 Crit Strike - +440 Crit Strike

    • For every additional 10 Crit Strike you add after +1 1% chance of doing Critical Damage
    +441 Crit Strike - +540 Crit Strike

    • For every additional 20 Crit Strike you add after +441 1% chance of doing Critical Damage
    +541 Crit Strike

    • For every additional 50 Crit Strike you add after +541 1% chance of doing Critical Damage
It is recommended to have 440 to 540 Crit Strike if you are a physical damage class.
    So Basically:
It would be very hard to get greater than 51% chance of a Crit Strike every time you attack a target.

yes.i don't where they saw that crit cap is 540 in 1.9.i have read the 1.9 patch notes many times and i haven't seen anything about crit cap change.
if you check profiles in retail they rarely reach the 500 crit.they either have buff food or are group with Chanter
the only reason to have higher that 440 crit is cause when you have +10 set armor you get 135 crit resist(440-135=crit rate the enemy hit you) and at +15 you get 195.plus +15 crit resist from wings and about 60 from ABG accessories.
