He said that that step was right what I did, but never told me what to do further xD

Long story short, Ari talked about the fact that it's nowhere stated that the ball is thrown on Earth. So what I'm saying is, what environment the ball is thrown in has no impact on what formulas you're going to use. V=S/T does NOT apply when V changes over time. And V changes over time when acceleration is present, and obviously acceleration IS present at your problem because.. well duh, that's what we're trying to calculate.

The only difference that the different environments would make (for example if the ball was thrown in Mars or Earth or Uranus like you said) would be that the number for G would change. For example in earth g is almost 10.

 

I would suggest giving your teacher both explanations that were presented and depending which one he chooses, let him explain why is it correct and the other one is wrong. That way, your teacher would think you're smart and at the same time give people additional educational information regarding that matter. It's a win/win situation.

Since we're looking for an acceleration; v can't be a constant as it's a free fall.

base formula is:
v=sqrt(2*g*h)
and v=gt
so g=2h/t^2

Dimitra's right on that one if we consider a gravitational problem. But i'm curious about what your teacher will say tomorrow, if he said you should start with v=d/t
