Mbps does not matter. It is how well your ISP connects to the server.

Ping is the time it takes for a packet to reach it's destination and come back. I can have 100 mb Bandwidth and still have 500 ms ping if the server is on the other side of the world.

Problem with most ISPs is that they throttle your internet to save money. People don't see it in results but they can feel it when they play or download something.

A VPN will allow you to connect to a server network that is not your ISP and keep your connection stable but you will have the same bandwidth but most likely your ping will be better.

You are paying for 5 mbps Bandwidth. Someone who is paying for 100 mb bandwidth is pretty much wasting their money if they only have 1 device. That is because most computers can only handle between 1 mb - 12 mb/s but 90% average 3 mb/s. When you buy 100 mb, You are buying a better network for more computers to use without lowering your download/upload speed.
