The idea is so both sides can be prepared. You start making siege alliances BEFORE the invulnerability timer is done, so the 2nd race will see you about 5-10minutes after the fort is vulnerable when you're already attacking it and they'll have a 20-40minute delay in organizing the counterzerg. Spying gives both sides the chance to start recruiting at approx the same time. + it's kinda fun figuring out which legions you can trust, pm them and make an alliance without using LFG, getting everyone to put themselves on invisible in friend list and etc. It gets annoying when races start "trading" forts like retail tho.

 

I think using your own factions assassins to spy is completely fair and part of the game. Using another character from opposing race to spy on team speak I feel is slightly cheating. Especially with Gamez since you can effectively have both races on same account.

All in all it is still just a game, and if people feel the need to abuse simple game mechanics to achieve a minor gain then perhaps they should re-evaluate their morals.

 

Still possible in retail, just need to bother making a 2nd account instead.

 

Not to compare it to real life or anything but, I am sure Spying is a decent strategy used in all kinds of warfare. So, for the question of whether or not spying is fair, no its not but so is a 15 to 1 fight or a elite Arbiter set vs Amba or a level 65 vs a level 55.

War is war. But who cares about spies if you got Mr. Grrr here Jumping into a group of 500 people with his pure awesomeness and AOE master slapping everyone with his Greatsword. Spy or not. Grrr wins against everything

 

Why it shouldn't be fair?..
Why they made in this game two races , so there cannot be a war?either not applying war perspectives?..
This is why we pvp also..isn't?.This is why we train , this is why we want good gear..so we can defeat Ely's/Asmo's...
So from my opinion , yes it is fair. War strategy.
What's in the war , stays in the war.
