As someone who's had 2 ASUS laptops so far, I have to say I strongly advise against buying one. Time and again they keep breaking on me in one way or another out of the blue. I've had to replace a screen, three keyboards (only one of them died because of something I did) and a hinge. Currently my Zenbook freezes every once in a while and repairs said they'd have to replace the motherboard ($700) to resolve it. The same Zenbook came with a faulty dedicated GPU that took me more than a year to figure out how to use practically (i.e. I need to let it crash once in the beginning of every gaming session and then I get about 4 to 5 hours of usage before it dies again).

Might be me but I'm definitely not buying any more ASUS products.

ASUS has had that reputation for a while now actually but all manufacturers do.

damn ive read alot about comparing laptop after laptop and so far MSI and Asus are the top mid tier laptops out there. Asus though has the history of fails but its said to have the best cooling system aside from Dell Alienware. also MSI seems to be struggling with cooling, and also known to be a hit or miss type of gaming laptop.
The alienware 17 and 15 are nice. price are within range but ive read that they crash sometimes. and for its price, its unacceptable.
THe acer predator is overpriced, according to many reviews.

so question now is. Asus or Msi ?

Alienware laptop would be your best bet. But I would rather get a gaming desktop.

all laptops have their downsides. there's no perfect laptop that can do whatever you want to do on it. eventually laptops break and getting repairs aint cheap as well. i would say just get whatever and live with the consequences of having a laptop. it all comes down to how much you take care of it and how often you use it.

Before my current Asus laptop I had the Asus N550 (for little over 2.5 years) and never had any problems with it. There's always a change of getting a faulty laptop from any manufacturer, but then you can always have it replaced or fixed by the manufacturer itself (if factory problem). Now, in regards of the laptop getting damaged or breaking, I totally believe that's up to how you take care of it. I still have my N550, which as I said I used for over two years and it works perfectly (has little signs of wear), but overall I would say it's a 8/10 (never damaged any part). So, IMO if you want any of your electronics to last, just take care of them.

Indeed. Mine was in perfect condition. Always kept it in the friggin overpriced case I bought for it. Didn't fall, didn't damage it in any way. Of course there's that chance, i'm just saying I bought a very similar PC to the ones he's into and was later on told they have that ... common issue. Yes, I am getting it fixed by the manufacturer itself.
