So think we can get more than about 30 seconds of warning before the server goes down

Its a free server that you don't have to pay for, It's all hosted and run by a small team of users who aren't going to be sitting there all hours of the day waiting for something bad to happen, they have lives outside of this game.

And predicting when a server will crash is pretty much impossible, a crash is sporadic and can happen at any time.

As for routine maintenance, they do warn people, I've hosted private servers like this one for other games in the past, and I can say from personal experience that when crashes like this happens, there's not a lot the admins can do if they're not actually there/awake. You just need to be patient and deal with it.

 

I know theres crashes and its free, but I just think it would be nice for them to inform us more than 30 seconds ahead of time. Im sure a lot of other ppl would appreciate a warning about 10 or even 5 minutes ahead of server maintenance time instead of "the server will shut down in 30seconds please log off"

 

@Darkstrider , You nailed it on the head. Could have not been said any better.

 

Try reading what I just said, they give enough warning to let people logout, you don't need half an hour.

Because if they do, chances are some users will go and do a raid, half way through said raid the server will go down. Thats wasted those users time and I know for a fact, all of them will spam the forums with a barrage of posts stating that they lost (ADD AWESOME ITEM HERE) because of the shut down.

Try putting yourself in the shoes of the administration, it may seem like gumdrops and rainbows, but in actual fact it can be utter hell trying to balance issues.

 

WHY? it only takes 10 seconds to quit the game. see signature/

 

Crashes are one thing but in all honesty, is it THAT hard to say give a ten minute warning if a planned server restart is about to occur?
