I already made my point in another thread, but this is another interesting point...

Most people don't know what you just said... Essentially the basic rules of how AM's work. They don't know because AM's normally don't talk about their duties... Normal players simple don't know what AM's can and cant do. Of course there's methods of finding out, but even I don't even really know how to find that information and honestly I don't really care to search.

The basic fact is this... Players expect AM's to handle ANY and ALL in game issues because you as an AM are the FIRST contact they have in the chain of command. Now of course that's not correct. You can't do EVERYTHING and solve ANY problem. You AM's aren't Superman... But you're expected to have an answer at the very least... Not "Sorry, this isn't my problem." So when you're on your main character that's "not an AM"... Remember that to players, you're SILL on the clock because YOU are still an AM... You're still the one with the knowledge and the ability to help.

I still get called an AM from time to time and I have to correct them and let people know that I'm not, but at the same time when someone needs help... I'll NEVER say, "I'm off duty, or SORRY... Go ask a REAL AM" because the way people perceive me is as a leader, and NOT helping would be worse for the community and my image as a leader than simply saying "Hey man, I really don't know and I can't help because I'm not an AM anymore, but let me tell you someone who can! =] "

By discretion does it mean that their personal biases apply? Like for instance, they're on a side and they see two bugs one on the other(a) and one on theirs(b), do they have the discretion to fix bug b then go back to their legit toon and bug a will have to wait until they're free?

Sorry, I wasn't playing during those times, I'm only seeing what I'm currently playing. This is why I am suggesting to split out AM's between factions. So situations like this can be lessened. If you're pulling out the generic admin-playing-legit-toon reason of you guys being unpaid to do stuff and now we wanted to limit your privilege, I would like to say you applied for this(?). No one forced you to do so, and you agreed to be an AM. Just like the Empyrean Lords, they're divided into two factions, will it be fun to see all the Empyrean Lords be stacked on a single race?

80% of the time (based on my playtime) guards are useless except for a pair or two. Why not remove them instead? Just like the previous T. Eye once you jumped down its game on, no turning back.

I am referring to the fact that you can find an AM available on the forum if there is no AM online in the game. But I really do not see why it always has to be discussed, the legitimate character of an AM. They are different things

I don't know of any AM, who replies "I don't know that's not my problem", to any players, even when on legit toons. I am confident that people in staff right now are always willing to help even when we are on our legit toons.

It's nice to know that you help people but a lot of players have already been doing that, regardless if they were previously an AM or not. So thank you and thank you to everyone else who are kind enough to help people around.

I'm surprised people still remember you as an X- AM, I felt like you were only an AM for a week. :wacky:

Incorrect. If there's bug issues we do our due diligence to report it even on our legit toons.

    RE: PVP Map
As far as I know, @cocosul checks on a daily basis if guards have any issues or any other issues with the PvP map that exists and tries to fix them as best he could. If something went wrong while there's no available AM's online, I urge you to pm any of us or make a report about it. Even if we are on our legit toons, we do our best to be online on the forums and address issues.

Now, I am sensing a trend here. "Assumptions". If I were to make an assumption such as, Hey Grewpain, you are complaining a lot about your guards, is it because AN AM on his legit toon killed you even after hugging the guards and having a zerg behind you? Now, that doesn't sound fair does it? Same goes for us. So, I suggest we stop with all of these assumptions and have a little faith in the people entrusted with their jobs.

You're surprised that people remember me? That's a little surprising... Though I guess it makes sense that you would think that.

It's not how long you're around, it's what you do with the time.

Which is the priority? Your due diligence or your time playing your legit toons? I'm asking since I have totally no idea and what and what not AM do or does

Certain issues should be addressed on regular basis, especially like this one. It might get fixed right away but it could also be bugged in a minute or two. I commend @cocosul with this since he's the only one's I've been seeing doing this so far and I think it shouldn't be just him.

By useless I'm implying that they're not totally functional. Not hitting at all and that's not an assumption, that's an observation. Assumptions were merely based hypothetical situations, mine was manifested.

P.S. Taking your argument. May I ask the purpose of these guards?

The guards are there more as a deterrent. Not a prevention... Don't rely on them to save you if there's a zerg or a BL geared asmo chasing you. In the end it's up to you not to die.

Now, if there's asmodians in the spawn zone like used to happen in the last area, sure. Take a video and report them. That's something you can do... But if a guard doesn't land a hit BC your opponent has high level gear, don't blame the AM's that you were in a PvP zone and died. That's just not how things work buddy. You can certainly suggest that changed be made, but again, don't blame the AM's if it doesn't happen immediately.

Both. Although, I would say, most of the time, we are way too busy to even have the time to play or to even enjoy the game that much. So, I find this question a bit insulting, despite the fact that you need not to be reminded that we serve the community as volunteers without any compensation for our work.

Like, I said on my previous post, @cocosul does a pretty good job about checking it every day. The only reason why these guards bugs a lot, because people are using them as shield every time. @cocosul can probably explain to you further if you'd like to PM him about that.

I am honestly against these guards. It seems, most of the time, players complain about their guards. Back in yesteryears, people pvpd without relying on guards. We went out to pvp maps, exploring various maps, kisking. Some people would kill our kisks, then we find a different area for our kisk spot. Those times were gold. It allowed people to be more adventurous and be creative. These OP guards only existed because a previous staff member decided to cater to a few players crying about how much they are dying and how much they are being camped, without thinking about the whole purpose of this server. If you've played here long enough, you'll understand, this server is a PVP server. Not a "lets hug our guards server to help us kill enemies".
The purpose of PVP, is to go out there and ENJOY it. It can be frustrating when you die, but that is part of what PVP is. When you PVP, you are taking risks to get killed while aiming to kill someone. PVP involves, killing your kisks, camping your spawn spot, at least it is how it was back then and that was fun. It created a very competitive environment which made it exciting. It forced people to think as a team to eliminate the people who were camping their spawn spots. No one cried about them back then. People just played and enjoyed it.

Like I said, if after we've tested and guards bugged again, you can always pm one of us so we can inform a Senior AM who can fix issues.

Apologies if you got offended as it was for enlightenment, I haven't seen anything as elaborate as this discussion we're having anywhere in the forums. You know when Admins became players, conflict of interest is inevitable. And please do not pull this reasoning out of any players, we all know that you're not compensated, but you applied for the position anyways, you already knew these things in the first place. Pardon me but I see this as pity-seeking. We were grateful for your selfless acts but every time I'm reading this anywhere I feel like you're smudging your selfless duties on our faces like you were forced to do so.

This is what I'm implying on my previous reply. Remove the guards. Initially, they were made to prevent spawn killing in Heiron (afaik), ' cause ofc how were you able to defend yourself when you're handicapped since you just respawned.

Tests like this are great. This should always be publicized to raise awareness. :D

The discussion can now be dropped anytime since the majority of my queries are answered already. I'm looking forward to the guardless SC, just like the 2.xx days

I wonder which golden times AM means... rifting in Eltnen and Heiron? Gelkmaros? Inggison? Pvp in Danaria/Katalam? By kisking I'd guess u mean Eltnen/Heiron... If AMs miss these times why not remove teleports / fix Forts? No hate but @OliverStylez helped ppl (me inc) a lot with his knowledge about game mechanics.

Well, I'm glad you were content with how the discussion went. However, I disagree with you about the "act of pity-seeking". We often get criticized and accused of a lot of things despite our efforts to promote fairness on each race. So it would be nice if people can slow down a bit with those accusations and assumptions, specially without a valid proof. We are humans just like you, we sometimes feel discouraged when people only see the negative and not the positive that each of us has contributed to the server.

Well, personally, I didn't think it was necessary to show players what we do because I thought it is already a given. It's easy to be critical of people when you can't see the work that they do, or be critical of anyone because you don't actually do any of the work so you can't relate what people go through.

Well, at the moment we are trying to figure out what would work best for the players. I'm glad @OliverStylez has helped you. That would make him very happy to hear that.

    Per OP's request, closing thread.
